i never came out to my parents because my parents never assumed i was cishet.

i never did an "am i gay?" quiz because i knew the answer didn't matter, really.

i never "found out" about trans people, my parent has identified as gender neutral my entire life.

i never cried or even felt any big emotions when i found out i was queer. it was just like huh. cool.

my point here is not that i'm sad about having grown up in a queer-friendly enviroment. my point is that the fact that i don't relate to queer experiences as a queer person might imply that we still define queerness based on suffering.

This is what we fought for decades ago and I'm very relieved to see that the result is Less Trauma More Genuine Acceptance.

So I get it, a bit.

It alienates you from part of the queer experience. Struggle is a huge part of queerness as a shared experience, NGL, but it isn't ubiquitous or all we have. Just, especially when we are young and people tend to be facing the most opposition, it is very prominent.

But there are parts of the queer experience you do share, and you are part of a continuum of people who were queer like you, and if you don't experience this pain in your home life, that is good and what we wanted for you.

You're part of the queer experience that is especially precious. You were brought up safe, in a climate of love and acceptance. You're what we should all get to experience. Value that. So many of us older folks got through on nothing but hope, and if there was none for us we got through on hoping it would get better for those to come, and seeing you getting what we always wanted for those who came after is healing.

You are precious to us. You are part of us.
