Clever human Caroline procures rare objects for obscenely wealthy supernatural clients, but her newest client has included a ridiculously complicated component to her job. She definitely should’ve raised her rates.

How to Steal a Moonstone

This is it. Bold stare only. Act like you own the place. Show no fear. It was Caroline’s ongoing mantra as she prepared for yet another risky meeting with her most dangerous client yet. “The price just doubled,” she told Klaus, sliding into the booth across from him. He certainly could afford it. All of her clients could — after all, she only catered to a very elite, very specific clientele. Caroline was a bundle of nervous energy, but had downed Gloria’s special blend of wild chamomile, rosemary, and Angelica root to prevent powerful supernatural creatures like Originals from detecting her pulse racing or slight tremors that reveal her secrets.

Choosing Chicago for her home base had been the best decision she’d ever made. Getting drunk at Gloria’s bar the night Klaus had been in town had been the most idiotic.            

Klaus leaned back, contemplating her in his disquieting manner of stillness with a predatory heat. And it always left her more than a little aroused. As if she needed further proof of how fucked-up she was.
