I think the reason he tends to fixate on these young boys is tied his unwillingness to accept sexual attraction to men as a whole, though I seriously doubt this is a conscious thought process. Maybe these boys split the difference in his lizard brain, developed and male enough to be exciting but less emotionally confronting than acknowledging attraction to a fully formed man with a fully adult male body. Just like with Paul originally, would this have ever occurred for Louis under different circumstances? Who knows, but it’s very evident that it’s occurring under these.

Ultimately, it’s not unlike some of the logic behind Ancient Greek pederasty, that homosexual acts are more permissible between a man and a boy but not between adult men (there’s WAY more going on with customs of pederasty than that, but that’s not what we’re talking about). In Louis’ case, perhaps if the object of his desire can take a pseudo-feminine role in his mind, it softens the psychological blow of his interest in them. Another sick, desperate workaround for someone who kind of survives on them anyway.

Lestat fits in here somewhat in terms of being very young, but there are marked differences between the mid to late teens and the early 20s. Lestat is frozen forever on the cusp of manhood, but he made it significantly further than Armand or the others. There are so many different reasons he and Louis came into conflict, but I would suggest that one was the chafe to Louis of the peer relationship between them.
