Sunset Before a Moonless Night: Jim and Spock
Spock watched him in silence, taking in the discomfort shifting in the man beside him. It was still confusing why this Human acted in this manner around him, but Spock presumed he would understand in time. That was what he repeated to himself at such times as these. But it did not much help his increasingly uncontrolled feelings of frustration that he could not understand his own draw towards this man. He found himself thinking of Jim and desiring his company in his absence. The reasons for this were not logical. He did not understand.
Yet suddenly Jimâs face light up in a way reminiscent of sunlight and Spock was briefly rendered breathless. That was not logical either. âSo I am told,â he confirmed. He had vague memories of the Enterprise, of his blue uniform. Of the rift with his father over his decision to join Starfleet, which Sarek seemed to have forgotten of late. âI would be interested to hear some of these stories. It has been suggested that I attempt to re-familiarize myself with my past in order to âtriggerâ previous memories. If you are comfortable with the action, it would be most beneficial to discuss such things.â
He hesitated, glancing at Jimâs hands on his arms. He wasnât displeased to find them there. Rather, his warmth was felt through Spockâs clothing, and he felt a strange sense of comfort. This must have been a repeated gesture in their knowing of one another. âMay I request something of you?â He continued without waiting long for the answer. For some reason he knew that Jim would have given him anything if he asked for it. âI have recently recalled something quite distantly. I remembered it when I was speaking with my father some days ago but I had not believed it to be a true memory. Yet under my scrutiny, it remains vivid.â He paused slightly, bringing the memory forward. Jimâs hair had been more golden then, but he was certain it was him. âMy father was dying. I was required to save his life, but I could not. You risked your own life to ensure that I could save him. Did this happen?â
@stackofbookswithlegs
âYes, that happened. Itâs when I first found out your father was the Ambassador to Earth,â Jim said with a chuckle as he gave both of Spockâs arms a squeeze. He knew he should let go that he was carrying on the contact longer than was culturally appropriate, but he didnât care. Coloring inside the lines, doing what was expected, and behaving perfectly was not Jimâs style, and heâd be damned if heâd stop being who he was.
Spock liked who he was. Spock loved who he was. And that was the man he needed to be right nowânot the nervous idiot he was becoming.
âLetâs go sit down. Itâs a long story,â he said, as he moved to Spockâs side and slipped his arm through the Vulcanâs so they could walk arm in arm. âAnd my kneeâs still a mess from my fight with that Klingon bastard.â
Once they were settled, Jim sitting close enough to Spock that their hips and thighs were pressed against each otherâs on a flattened rock that probably hundreds of Vulcan butts had smoothed over the centuries, he told Spock about the journey to Babel and how it brought him and his family together once more. âI had to do it, Spock. I couldnât let you lose your father.â

The One with the Kid - Bones and Jim
Lenny looked at the grown-ups staring back at him. He didnât know any of them and this definitely wasnât his house. Confusion welled up in him as he was overwhelmed by everything that didnât make sense and it started his chin quivering. Where was his mother? Why wasnât she here? And how had he gotten here?Â
He did know one thing - he didnât like this at all. He was scared and there wasnât even anywhere to hide.
Big fat tears started rolling down his cheeks before he could stop them. Lenny sniffled and wiped his nose on the sleeve of the tunic he was swimming in. Everything was wrong and he couldnât find the words to articulate it, so this seemed like the next best option.
âAw, Bones,â Jim said with a sigh as he stepped closer to the little boy. If it wasnât such a serious situation, heâd be laughing at how adorable McCoy was at the moment. Instead he crouched in front of the kid and offered him a friendly smile. âDo you know who I am, Leonard?â Using the manâs real named seemed like the best idea.
Behind him Spock and Scotty were pouring over the transporter and computer, trying to figure out what happened. Scott was sputtering and muttering, and Spock was stoic and precise as always. âThere seems to have been a power fluctuation,â Spock offered. âMr. Scott and I will need to do more research to discover what went wrongâand to find a solution.â
âGood idea,â he said over his shoulder. Holding out his hand to McCoy, Jim turned up the smile. âHow about you come with me? We should make sure youâre OK. OK?â

The One with the Kid - Bones and Jim
@imadoctornotamagician started this HERE
âOne to beam up, Mr. Scott.â Bones called up to the ship.
The beam down had been rough, to say the least and he wasnât looking forward to repeating the experience. Scotty had tried to explain about some anomaly in the atmosphere, but all Bones heard was âsomething, something, dangerous, youâre probably going to die in this death machine.â Which, if he was honest, was what he heard every time they talked about the transporter.
The transporter engaged and he took a deep breath. It was like getting in to a cold lake, he told himself. You just gotta jump in all at once. Get it over with.
A few seconds later, aboard the Enterprise, someone materialised. The uniform was McCoyâs and so was the kit and tricorder. But the boy standing there draped in a uniform that was far too big for him definitely wasnât the same man that theyâd beamed up.
Jim was making his way to the transporter room with Yeoman Rand at his flank handing him report after report for his signature. Thankfully heâd read most of them the day before, and he was only checking for minor changes. He was also thankful he knew the interior of Enterprise like the back of his hand, or heâd have walked into a bulkhead more than twice on the way.
âAnd one more, Captain,â the blonde said as she took the PADD from his hand and flipped through the pages to the bottom of the stack.
âYou promise?â he joked as he took it back just as the double red doors to the transporter whooshed open. âBecause my wrist is getting tired.â He glanced toward the sparkling energy on the pad, not paying a whole lot of attention to it, even if it was Bones beaming upâthey did it all the timeâso he wasnât worried.
âOh my!â Rand said, tapping Jimâs arm to draw his attention.
âHmmm?â he looked toward the pad and nearly dropped the reports on the deck. There was no mistaking those blue eyes, even if they were in a kidâs face. âBones? Mr. Scott, what happened?â

Metronâs Symphony
Bones saw him trying to sit up, but didnât say a word. Jim wanted to be stupid and try to move? Alright. But heâd learn quickly to sit still until he recovered. âYouâre lucky you knew what you were doing.â The hypo hissed into the captainâs skin. âIf you kept at it the way you started, throwinâ all your weight at him and whatnot, you would have been beaten to a pulp within the first hour. You stopped and used your head, Jim, and thatâs what saved your ass.â
The doctor stopped and looked down at his best friend. Biobeds were all good for giving information, but there was so much he could tell about a man just looking at their body. Jim was cleaned up of all the scratches and bruises, but he looked stiff, uncomfortable, and his expression was far grumpier than normal. He was clearly in pain. Leonard rested a gentle hand on the captainâs shoulder and gave a half hearted smile.Â
âI guess Spock told you we didnât see the end of the transmission. What actually happened?â He took a step away and sat on the edge of the empty biobed. The last they had seen, Jim was getting his ass handed to him and then the transmission cut off. The doctor had initially assumed the worse, but not long afterward the captain had appeared on the bridge again. Of course, heâd been thrilled, but the most he talked to his friend the angrier he was getting. What the hell happened down there? @stackofbookswithlegs
âI wish Iâd remembered how to make the canon earlier. Wouldâve saved me a hell of a lot of grief and bruises,â Jim said as he turned onto his side so he could meet Bonesâ eyes. Thankfully, the doctor had sat to his left, and he was able to lean on the elbow that didnât hurtâwell hurt lessâbut that was probably the hypospray going to work.
âIt was like in one of those old cartoons where a lightbulb goes off above your head for an idea. Suddenly I remembered what I needed.â His let his eyes close for a moment while he collected his thoughts. âBut what really happened when I took the Gorn out was I suddenly realized how incredibly childish I felt for what Iâd done. We went after them in anger, out of vengeance, and it was the wrong thing to do.â
Jim gave up on resting on his arm when his hand started to go numb and rolled back over to stare up at the ceiling. âThe Metrons rubbed our nose in our mess like we were bad puppies. I can still smell the shit. Thatâs not the person I want to be. The kind of captain and representative of the Federation that Iâm supposed to be. Diplomacy, communication, I shouldâve tried to talk to them before I tried to kill them. Yes, they acted rashly, but that didnât mean I should have. I was wrong, Bones. I was wrong.â
