The first thing that Spock noticed was the smell--fresh and light--and the feel of Jim’s hair against his cheek. Spock was more or less upright on the little couch, his legs curled underneath him. His head had fallen forward so that his cheek rested against the top of Jim’s head, which in turn was resting against the Vulcan’s shoulder. Like pieces of a puzzle. 

Jim seemed still to be quite happily asleep. So Spock moved carefully, gently extricating himself from behind Jim, laying the man’s head down on the arm of the couch. He moved equally quietly once he was standing--padding on bare feet across the room. As he waited for the tea to brew, Spock stretched his arms and neck--he was slightly stiff, but despite that minor physical discomfort, he felt entirely mentally refreshed. At ease in a way that he had not been in some time.

Two cups of tea in hand, Spock made his way back to the couch. Setting them both down on the end table, he took a seat on the edge of the cushion, just in front of Jim’s shins. He simply sat, watching Jim’s chest rise and fall as he continued to sleep. It must have been several minutes before Spock moved again, and when he did it was rather subtle. Just a gentle resting of his hand atop Jim’s hip. 

“Jim,” he said, increasing the pressure of his hand just for a brief moment, not wanting to wake the man unkindly. “We will be needed elsewhere soon.”

“Sky Captain, I like that. Everything looks good on me,” he said, narrowing his eyes and licking his teeth behind his lips. No smile or smirk for this son of a fucking bitch. “Trust me, I know. As for Spock.” He paced toward the dark-eyed monster and grabbed his tie, twisting it around his fist. “I think it’s time you told me where he is. Don’t you?”

Such aggression. With a tug of the other loose tail of fabric, the necktie loosens, freeing the good doctor from Jim's vice-like grip with a precautionary step backward. "Actually...this is why I advised you to rest. Obviously you're not thinking clearly." As he speaks, articles of clothing are slowly shed—first his eyeglasses, suit jacket, and the white button-down—revealing his doppelganger's Academy uniform to Jim's eyes. "I mean, if you recall..."
