i just love all the stories about production on project hail mary. they didn't use a single green/blue screen in the whole film. they built the whole interior of the hail mary. the petrova line scene was done practically by putting infrared lights on a chicken wire cage. rocky's voice was one of the puppeteers because he did such a good job during filming that they couldn't imagine anyone else voicing him. and rocky was a practical puppet/animatronic! sandra huller picked sign of the times as her karaoke song and she asked her daughter if it was still a cool song. i just feel like there was so much love making this film and im obsessed

Annnnd another thing the movies messed up:

It’s a very important character beat that Peeta is bleeding out and dying when Katniss comes up with the berry idea.

It’s not just that Katniss refuses to kill him.

Peeta is dying all on his own already, as fast as he can. Katniss is scrambling to get him medically evacuated. It’s the feast all over again.

Everyone’s expecting him to die in her arms and for her to win the games. It’s the logical thing and it would be in no way her fault and it’s almost inevitable and unstoppable because of how fast he’s bleeding.

But she knows if he dies she’ll “spend the rest of [her] life trying to think [her] way out of the arena.”

Katniss did the impossible and got them to take a dying kid out of the games early. Peeta passes out on the ladder and almost dies several times on the table while they work on him, while Katniss watches, unshowered and feral and berserk, with a frilly mocktail drink sitting next to her.

It’s just so much more raw and visceral and clear in the books.

It’s really important to me that it wasn’t “I can’t kill you” but it’s “I can’t let you die.” More than that it’s “you are dying and i have no power to change that but I’m going to anyway.”

And it actually worked.

YES! In the book you can taste her frantic desperation. She was willing to gamble her life for his. In that moment it wasn’t an angry act of defiance towards the Capitol, it was Katniss going into deep survival mode. If he dies I’ll never really go home, as in this will destroy me, as in I would rather die than live in a world without you in it.

Right, and in the movie they even go so far as to have Peeta touch Katniss's braid, while Katniss looks up toward the Gamemakers, creating even more of a divide in how to read their motivations for the last stunt. Peeta's just in love with Katniss, while Katniss is just trying to one-up the Capitol. When that's not the case AT ALL. Katniss does love Peeta, and she's fighting like hell to get them both home, enough for this survivor to risk her own life, her family's own livelihood, because she knows that if she loses him, it will destroy her.

And Peeta himself told her to hold out the berries so they'd see what they were doing...he got that this was rebelling against the Capitol, too. Much more obviously connected to love for him, but a rebellion nonetheless.
