A family friend (don't know her too well) tried to hug me as she was leaving, and I politely tried asking her not to because 1) I'm in pain and 2) my spine is deteriorating due to a chemo drug. I really mean it when I say you can't hug me. But this bitch just went "no I'm gonna hug you" and shook me around and squeezed me like a dish towel while I was trying to push her off, and now a section of my spine and ribs is so fucked up I can't bend it and it really hurts. She literally injured me just because she couldn't take no for a fucking answer.

Like. This is why I have learned helplessness. This is why I give up so easily. At some point, having boundaries and asserting yourself and communicating your needs doesn't do jack fucking shit, because if people want to, they can overpower you and physically harm you in the process anyway. For nothing.

And this is why I don't buy people saying "it's YOUR responsibility to enforce your boundaries; just asking for something isn't a boundary <3." Because I physically can't. Most disabled people physically can't. A person in a wheelchair can't "enforce" someone not touching their chair. Yeah, after it happens, they can maybe avoid that person in the future as a way to "remove that person's access" to the wheelchair user. But at that point, assault has already been committed and it's not about boundaries anymore. It's about human fucking rights. "Don't assault me" is not a fucking boundary. It's an able bodied person's trigger word.

It's interesting to me that some people say that in the scene of John, Ava, and Yelena comparing weapons that John didn't get that they were making a dick joke about his gun, because that's not my interpretation of the scene at all.

He didn't stammer because he didn't get the joke, he stammered because he did get it, but he's been with exactly one woman in his entire life and maybe doesn't have much of a crude sense of humor himself, so the two of them insinuating anything as a euphemism left him too flustered to come up with a remark beyond stammering "just...a little...a little long". The backtracking is him realizing what his first statement sounded like and recognizing them poking fun (lightheartedly) at him. It's essentially him going "wait that's not what I meant" because he realizes it's embarrassing to brag about size for what they're talking about. And let's be real, he wants them to like him, lol, so he goes along with the joke rather than getting mad about it.

Idk what my point is. It's just my favorite scene in the movie, I think it's really cute and shows us the kind of friendship that the bolts want to have with each other (teasing but lighthearted, rather than begrudging or annoyed like we'd seen when they were first having to work together). I think it also shows a lot of potential for John's gentler side and ability to exercise humility with people he cares about; he's learning to be okay with being the butt of jokes if it's coming from friends. He doesn't get mad or defensive about it, he just awkwardly fumbles in response to the joke and yes I find that adorable and endearing of him.

Sometimes Tumblr is a lot like trying to explain a toddler that you can't eat bugs and spiders because that's bad for you, and then someone shows up to lecture you about how spiders are a completely different class from insects, also you got "centipede" and "millipede" mixed up, so obviously you don't know anything about what you're talking about.

And if you try to answer like "do you want me to just let this kid just eat bugs or what", they'll get offended because correcting you about being wrong has nothing to do with implying that anyone would be eating bugs off the ground, obviously nobody is stupid enough to be doing that in the first place, that's a straw man and insulting to every group of people ever.
