So there's this plastic turtle we have outside our school that tells cars to slow down. My kids have always asked me why I don't have a husband, and I got tired of telling them because I didn't want one, so I pointed to him and said, "That dude. That's my husband."
This has been a running joke for two years now. All the kids know the plastic turtle outside the school is my husband. He doesn't have a name, just Miss Cat's husband.
Today was really windy, and the turtle dude fell over. I was taking a kid out to his mom, and he saw it on the ground and went, "Oh look, your husband died."
So I said, "Oh darn. Looks like I'm single again."
And without skipping a beat, he goes, "I'll be your husband."
Mom is standing there trying not to laugh as I got down on my knees, took the kid's hands in mine, and said, "Thanks for the offer, bud, but no thank you. We'll just pick that guy up so he can start being my husband again."
So the kid runs over, picks the turtle up, and goes "Good morning, husband! You're not dead anymore. Good job."
This line from the backrooms movie made me think of them so I had to draw it
Mate, you’ve got a chubby lizard on your dashboard
Graced by Geckolepis typica from Madagascar. I love that they’re quite round creatures and then they have these dainty little toes. Also, their scales are full bone and both scale and skin come off when they get grabbed, which is…unpleasant. Consequently, catching these geckos for research without damaging them requires special techniques. 19th century researchers used bundles of cotton wool, but I imagine this wasn’t very effective, because cotton still has a lot of friction and the friction would pull the skin and scales off. In my (quite extensive) experience, the best technique is to carefully and quickly flick the geckos from their tree trunk or branch into an open dry plastic bag using a finger or stick.
'scuse me, Mr @markscherz, does it harm the gecko for the scales to come off?
like, of course it harms them but... can they grow back? like how some lizards can drop their tails and eventually the tails grow back
Not only do they grow back, but they come back so well that we cannot even tell where they have ripped off before. This is very weird, because when a lizard loses its tail, it is very obvious where it has been lost and regrown. Not so these chaps. They seek out a humid place to hide, and within a few weeks, skin and scales have started to regrow. The fact that they can do this so well is the reason a team has just sequenced their genome. I believe it is hoped that the skin regeneration tech they have built into their cells could eventually be harnessed for human skin grafts.

The Royal Protector
Been replaying the dishonored series and i felt like drawing Corvo. Tried something different with the backgrounds and the colors for this one.
Woman murders man in broad daylight
beautiful like to reblog ratio on this
That's because people are reblogging it every time they see it. Like I'm doing right now lmao
People expressing that they didn't expect the Among Us show to be good are baffling to me. It's a show run by OWEN DENNIS. How were you not hyped for this from the second it was announced.
Also wild to me that people saying the show's criticism of capitalism is "coming from capitalists," as if Owen Dennis isn't constantly on Bluesky talking about how they industry is systematically fucking everyone over. As if he doesn't have a Patreon to supplement his income. As if he hasn't rather famously had his original projects fucked over by networks. We can critique the way pop culture can water down radical politics without pretending that animation workers aren't working-class. (Does nobody remember the strikes???????)
"Capitalist" doesn't mean "person whose name a lot of people know," and Owen Dennis doesn't own the means of production. If he did, the show wouldn't have gotten kneecapped for literal years and shadow-dropped onto a streaming platform that probably won't exist within six months.
Legal experts say employers must take AI-related religious objections seriously, as a 2023 ruling raised the bar for denying such accommodat
"The funniest possible outcome of the AI mandate era is about to be HR departments discovering that 'sincerely held religious belief' under Title VII has a much lower bar than they assumed, and Pope Leo handed every Catholic employee a written excuse," wrote Corey Quinn, a software-startup founder in San Francisco, on X.
Employers could wind up in court if they outright dismiss workers who request a faith-based exemption from using AI, said Ashley Herd, a former McKinsey counsel and head of North American HR who now advises managers and employers on workplace issues.
"Playing priest, and telling employees their request isn't legitimate, does not tend to bode well for companies," said Herd, also a cohost of the "HR Besties" podcast. "A jury doesn't like it when employees get made fun of by managers or HR."
This is Hilarious.
I mean... whatever works, I guess!
We read Persepolis, and watched the adaptation, in the 10th grade, and it's stayed with me ever since. I'm eternally in awe of Marjane Satrapi's bravery and resilience, and may she rest in peace.

"I like it in here"
Okay. But its going to consume you.
"We don't have to change"
Okay. But it's going to consume you.
Eventually you have to leave. Eventually you have to run. And its painful and it's so much harder than staying in the comfort of what you know. In that house that stopped being a home years ago. Living memories you've replayed so many times over and over that the details are warping and becoming hollowed out corpses.
And it will consume you when you least expect it. You'll rot right there along with the building foundations and distort right along with your memories.
You'll have to run eventually, even if that's not how you're wired.
The window was never locked.
We were never supposed to see Clark's wife. The film is about Clark and how he describes what happened that led him to her divorcing him and how he views her. It wouldn't matter if we saw her POV because Clark just wanted to go back to those simplier times when he had control and was able to "understand" her through his distorted lens
And thus we as an audience don't completely understand and so have to just go off of Clark and Mary's conversations (describing a dog to a person who has never seen one before)
She is not a person, she is a memory
