Grace and Rocky are living in like this whimsical space adventure. Meanwhile, back on Earth, Eva Stratt just ordered her fifth assassination this week trying to stop WW3. Reasons my human has cried:
* New student, very small. Grace said it was pebble. Pebble is small Earth rock. Pebble likes name.
* He found out Eridians have no gender rules.
* Students brought him mineral sample. After he stopped crying he said he loves show-and-tell game. Human naming conventions oddly literal.
* I told him Earthsun grew bright.
* I took him up atop atmosphere bypass elevator to look at stars.
* He woke up from nap and found me still with him. I did not wait on his chest; he says I am heavy like “elephant” and he “couldn’t breathe.” I laid my arm over him instead, kept him close, feeling safe. He said “cuddle” was warm.
* Before class he heard younglings singing.
* He has plants in house from sprouts on ship. Plant grew “bud.”
* Engineers got seawater temperature right. He took off shoes and stood in water, sighing. He didn’t care about pants getting damp. Cried until shirt was also damp. Humans very endlessly wet.
* He missed “Doritos.”
* Adrian helped food scientists make taumoeba dried paste. Made it crunchy after heating. We fused it into triangle form. Told him it was Tauritos. That made him laugh-cry. Laugh-cry is rare and precious.
* He remembered Eridians have no gender rules.
* We made him celebration outfit. Used metals he calls pretty. He can see frequencies named “colorful” and “shiny.” These make humans happiest.
* I gave him hug when he wasn’t expecting it. Easier to hug close now with exosuit. Hug when Grace sitting down so he does not fall over.
* Told him to think long time, stay with me as long as he can.
rocky fully expected to die when he broke out of his ball into an atmosphere his body couldn't withstand to save grace and the ship.
grace fully understood that turning around to save rocky from the taumoeba would be condemning himself to a long death in space.
they both knowingly and willingly sacrificed themselves. they both answered "who would you die for?" with a resounding "each other."
and only because of that did they both survive to their happy endings.

soft, quiet crying with zayne. nothing dramatic, no sobs, just tears welling up in your eyes and dripping down your cheeks with soft sniffles. sitting on his lap, facing him, your face buried in the point between his neck and shoulder. weakly gripping at the back of his sweatshirt while your tears soak into the fabric.
he doesn't say anything, but he doesn't need to say anything. he knows what you need right now isn't words, it's his presence. so he holds you against him, slowly stroking the palm of his hand up and down your spine beneath your shirt. his affection keeps you secure, stops the negative spiral from taking over your mind.
you listen to the calming, steady rhythm of his breaths, familiar and grounding to you after so much time spent in his presence. you hear the soft sound of his skin against yours, barely audible yet still there in the stillness of this moment with him. his body keeps you warm, staving off the chill that often comes when dealing with these things alone.
it takes a while, but your tears eventually slow, soothed by his endless patience and the calm he always brings with him when he enters a space. you know you can rely on him to be rational, a constant presence in your life who can bring you back down to earth when you panic or begin to overthink. he's logical and intelligent, examining things with a thoroughness that you've never found in anyone else.
he doesn't rush you, even once the tears stop. if you feel the need to cry again, he holds you through it. if you simply wish to rest in his lap for a while longer, he won't complain. your trust and vulnerability are precious to him, and he wouldn't trade them for anything.

I keep seeing the take that Weapons is about a school shooting and having just seen it last night, I don’t get that vibe at all. Like, to me, the themes of children being an oppressed class - the narcissism of the older generation not viewing children as living, thinking, feeling human beings but as either props for them to use when they’re fighting a pointless battle or as tools to enrich themselves somehow - and how that hurts everyone in a community in the long term is far more prevalent. The children are taken from their homes, in full view of their parents’ security cameras, and still no one was alerted. Rather than come together as a community and try to work together to find their children, the parents seem to isolate, to the point where the mother Archer approaches doesn’t seem to recognize him. The angry parents, Archer especially, all focus their rage on Justine even though the evidence against her is incredibly flimsy, simply because she is one of the only factors that ties them together and she is an easy target - she’s not a parent, she can’t TRULY care about the children, not like their FAMILIES do. Meanwhile, Archer didn’t realize until it was far, far too late that his emotional distance from Matthew was turning the kid into a horrible little shit. None of the parents or even the police ever gave even a thought to Alex - the OTHER thing that ties all the missing children together - who suffered for months IN HIS OWN HOME. Justine has to point out that the paths the children took as they left didn’t intersect at the radio tower, but at the Lilly home, because the thought never even crossed Archer’s mind. The danger was never the outside threat of the school, it was in a single family home on a quiet suburban street. But because Alex is a child, and not their child, the other parents pay exactly zero attention to him in the grand scheme of things, even though it should have been obvious to multiple people that something was seriously WRONG in Alex’s life. And this isn’t even bringing Gladys into things, when she herself is basically the personification of an abusive and/or neglectful home life. The police, the other parents, the school - they failed Alex miserably because they didn’t view him as a person, but as window dressing for their own grief.

Only one person died. Only one singular person. In a superhero movie! The type that love to throw around casualty counts like it’s all a big game, waving off 70 people being killed in a handful of days like it’s no big deal, yet only ONE PERSON died.
And he was mourned. Superman cried for him—this stranger who gave him free falafel and, while facing death, told him that he still believed in him. Metamorpho, this cold-seeming man who is being actively blackmailed to do this, breaking down and taking the risk to believe in Superman, too, because seeing someone murdered right in front of him is devastating enough to take the risk. The newspapers run a front page article talking about how they’re going to memorialize him.
The stakes didn’t have to involve real actual loss of life. The threat of it was enough to convey the severity of the situation. Because human life is that important. All life is that important, at least to Superman who goes out of his way to save dogs and squirrels.
(Hawkgirl does kill SHEIN Netanyahu but genocidal dictators don’t count as human beings lol.)
Superman losing his composure only when people shrug off the lives of others. Doesn’t matter how well he knows them. Doesn’t matter if they’re even human.
He gets upset at the Justice Gang for brutally killing a rampaging Kaiju and not even attempting to find a way to move it or at least euthanize it more humanely.
The only time he raises his voice during Lois’ interview is when she digs into his interference in geopolitics, because people would have died if he hadn’t acted. The only time he yells at Luthor is when Luthor abducts Krypto. The only time he cries is when Luthor murders someone he barely even knew.
He saves a fucking squirrel for god’s sake. We’re so back.
excuse me for stating the obvious but like. james gunn outright calling superman an immigrant and doubling down on it when he got backlash (because he IS an immigrant, that's the point of superman) + the in-movie dialogue of "aren't you going to read me my rights?" "you're an extraterrestrial, son. you haven't got any rights to read." + the violence of his arrest and how they torture and mistreat him unapologetically, all under the guise of "protecting america", in a film releasing during the onslaught of violent ICE kidnappings and abuse... yeah it's really no wonder right-wing knobheads are crying about this being woke. they're being forced to look directly at the reasons one of the most well-known and beloved heroes of all time would not be on their side. and that's only ONE of the reasons this movie covers

one of the best decisions yellowjackets has ever made is reverting the women back into girls at their most vulnerable moments. shauna when she kills adam, nat laying her head in lottie's lap, misty seeing young natalie in the mirror, misty in the morgue seeing lottie because this truly hammers home that their lives stopped the moment that plane went down and that no matter how much time has passed by, they're still those teenage girls who were on their way to their football game and lost 19 months of their lives trying to survive.
