Ok I know I’m not the first or last person to shit on AI or reflect on its damage but it’s really interesting to see the hexed trailer come out with accusations of AI use (which are well warranted due to disneys investment in it). In my opinion I think the movie looks AI because AI has trained and trained and trained and then trained that training on 3D disney movies for the past however many years. Of course any Disney content in the 3D in house style will look like AI, the AI is tailored off of it! In all of this, I do think the in house style is dated and has been since probably encanto. It’s not bad, just safe. With AI being a thing, I have no idea what the future of animation will look like, but I am certain that the Disney style is for better or worse dead on arrival. Any 3D movie from here on out that uses the classic look will appear no different from AI slop. The sad thing is, I could see the same exact thing happening to say the Sony kpop demons hunters style if the AI is given enough data to steal and replicate poorly. Even if 2D were to return (my dream), would the AI begin to co-opt that? I mean it’s clearly trained on classic 2D animation as well but just doesn’t seem as good at that style than say, 3D. I have no real answers and at this point I’m just an observer but wanted to put this out there into the world because I have no one to tell it to.
