like the most obvious examples are obviously south park and basically every single seth mcfarlan show, but you can see a similar pattern in rick and morty, even if most of the right-wing messaging is unintentional and the result of poor writing. despite being very progressive in most ways, the simpson and futurama are not immune to this either as racist, transphobic, and homophobic ideas have creeped into them mostly via the influence of broader cultural attitudes. king of the hill is hard to get a read on, but overall i think it manages to avoid this problem for the most part by being about a conservative man learning to change with the times and accept more progressive ideas. i think the only other exception really is bob's burgers unless you want to start getting into adult oriented action shows and indie animation, but that's outside of the scope of this post

OH not to mention the pervasive fucking ablism in pretty much all of these shows excluding maybe bob's burgers (i might be forgetting something, but i can't remember anything noteworthy off the top of my head)

Personally I’d say the pakleds were unintentionally ableist in Lower Decks but they were trying to improve something they knew was awful from the 90’s so it’s definitely got more going on as to ~why~

When I read “space…the final frontier” there’s a small part of my brain that is that audio of Patrick Stewart saying it but with a ridiculous french accent that makes it “eh-spay-zeh…ze final frahn-tee-aire” while Jonathan Frakes absolutely loses it in the background.

The book typeset in the future includes an interview with TNG scenic art supervisor Mike Okuda where he explains the reasoning behind the design choices made in the displays, including the fact that an ultracompressed sans-serif font is perfect for giving the impression that it’s easily readable without actually being something the audience could read and be distracted by. It’s really fascinating stuff
