Only Merlin could criticize âdark magicâ and then beat the crap out of a 16 year old and then turn said child into a half-troll half-human creature
Like bro where is the line
Merlin thinks hes above any line
He doesn't have a problem with verbally abusing his teenage apprentice either :/
God forbbid a white man to have a hobby. Or being a Grey morally written character, with actitudes True to the era in which it was set.
I mean- Yeet the trollhunter on the stinky water! And let the poor old man back to sleep for other millenium. Jim will be fine-
HOW is Jim the villain in Douxieâs story??? đ
Also i don't think coming from a different era means he can get off Scott free bullying children
OH BOY- I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE.
okay.
HEAR ME OUT.
Maybe, Jim is not a "villian" per se- but
He was the antagonist of Douxie's story.
An antagonist refers to a person, group, or force that opposes the main character. Often called âthe rival,â their narrative function is to create the central conflict that drives the story and forces the main character to grow.
With that clear, I kind of like to overanalyze characters. That was my favourite part of the fandom, just overlook how they acted with one specific person, or their reaction to some specific topic.
In trollhunters, I overanalyzed Douxie's point of view from the story.
Let's talk about the bits of history and canon we know about the characters from âWizards.â Personally, I like to consider the HCs made by the visual development and character design artists as canon, because they were the ones who knew and created the characters before the budget cuts, and I find them much more interesting than the versions we saw on screen âespecially since, given the limited time they had, it wasn't enough to fully develop their storiesâ. Yeah, maybe itâs not the ârightâ thing to do; oh well, itâs just my opinion.
Now then. What do we know about Douxie?
- We know very little about his past. - If he could remember anything, it would be âfragments of screams, crying, and fire.â - We know he lived in a caravan when he was little. -He lived with his mom; we have no information about his father. A single mother, perhaps? -He loved traveling the world, and he was very curious -He liked to visit the little girl who lived on the outskirts of town and help her pick flowers -Heâs known Archie since he was a child, but after he was separated from his mother.
So, with this in mind, we need to put the pieces of the puzzle together. He lived with his mother, but his village was attacked; somehow, he managed to survive, but his mother did not (much like in *Kung Fu Panda* or *The Bible*). Later, he meets Archie, a dragon who becomes his familiar and forms a bond with the wizard. Very few dragonsâand even fewer after the Age of Dragons, when they went into hide in the Hidden Worldâshow themselves, let alone form a bond with a human. And after years of surviving on his own, he is âsavedâ and adopted by Merlin.
Yes, maybe Merlin isnât the âFather of the Yearâ in 2026, butâ itâs a medieval story. He gave him a roof over his head, clothes, food, and an education. He kept him alive, which is saying a lot for that era *stares look at the high death rates from simple illnesses*. Anyway, obviously, whatâs considered acceptable treatment today wonât be the same as it was in the Middle Ages. In fact, perhaps he couldnât even consider him his father, but he could consider him his mentor.
Letâs remember that magic was a crime, and that Arthur hated magical creatures. He only acceptedâand barelyâMorganaâs magic because she was his sister, and he tolerated Merlin solely for the power he granted him. But there are no other wizards, despite it being called âthe age of wizards.â Now, Merlin brought a street kid to the palaceâa young wizard, I should point outâand Arthur not only didnât kill him, but he let him live in his palace, under Merlinâs protection.
Itâs a âkidsââ show, so they donât show all the atrocities that clearly took place in the palace. Obviously, but we know they happened. Iâm not going to make excuses for it, but I canât say they didnât happenâunfortunately, it was very common back then. Whatâs more, even today itâs very common for parents to raise their children in ways that arenât⌠appropriate⌠The clearest example: *Ahem.* LA CHANCLA.
Nowâback in medieval timesâugh⌠that was on a whole other level. But Douxie wasnât a slave. He enjoyed a great many luxuries; yes, he cleaned, but that doesnât mean he was part of the servant classâhe pretended to be one to keep a low profile. Merlin had him clean and do chores so he could learn the value of work. Maybe he had to do some physical labor on occasion, or one of the knights did, but letâs not forget that, first of all, IT WAS A ROYAL COURT, and second, IT WAS THE MIDDLE AGES.
If we look today at how children were raised in the â60s, we think, âThatâs outrageous.â If we see that in ancient times, Coca-Cola was considered âmedicine,â we say, âHow is that possible!â But itâs just a product of the times.
Sopa, youâve told me a lot of nonsenseâwhat does that have to do with Jim being an antagonist?
Thatâs what Iâm getting atâwait.
Douxie fought side by side with Merlin in the war, helped him create the Trollhunterâs amulet, and watched as Morgana lost herself to magic. He was young, he was foolish, and he lacked the power to intervene. His master, his world, everything he had, leftâ disappeared.
In his final wish, Merlin entrusted Douxie with building his tomb, inscribing the legends of his prophecies on its walls, protecting the magic, telling the story of his name, and caring for the world and humanity.
If you ask me, thatâs too much to ask. But oh well. Douxie didâ at least, he did what he could.
He built Merlinâs tomb, had to move every 9â13 years (I donât remember the exact number of years a creator had mentioned), and maintain a low profile. All on his own, he found IMMORTALITYâwithout Merlinâs help, thank you very much. He survived hundreds of wars, world conflicts, the plagues (yes, plural), witch hunts, the conquest of new worlds, climate change, and made his masterâs name a legend.
Thatâs quite something, if you ask me. Yes, maybe he didnât become a âmaster wizard,â but he waited 900 years for his mentor, like a faithful little dog who just wants his master to come back. No matter how abusive their relationship may have been, it was his mentor who gave him a task, and no matter how much time passed, Douxie did that task to the best of his ability.
Nowâ Youâre going to tell me that, after 900 years, Merlin wakes up and leaves with Jim? I mean, yeah, I get itâ the war with Gunmar and all that, stop Morgana, blah blah blah. But not even a âHey, Douxie, thanksâ it didnât go very well, but nice try.â Or âDouxie, I just woke up; weâre at war again; come find me here.â Itâs something they mentionâ and the problem is that after the war with Morgana and Gunmarâ MERLIN WENT OFF WITH JIM TO EMBARK ON MORE ADVENTURES.
HE LEFT HIM; HE LITERALLY WENT AWAY WITHOUT CONTACTING HIM FOR MONTHS. AND IT WASNâT UNTIL LITTLE JIM HAD AN ACCIDENT THAT âOh, I remembered you exist, btwâ hey, come help me with Jim; heâs more important than youâ you know, âmain character syndrome.ââ
Huh? Excuse me?
Jim?
The kid who gave Douxie dirty looks just for existing and being nice? Oh, right, he used to leave him tips, so we can excuse his bad treat to the service, just because he has money. But that passive-aggressive vibe from a 16-year-old?
That Jim?
Well, whatever, Douxieâll help you. Itâs recent, after all, right?
WHAT?
WHAT DO YOU MEAN YOUâVE BEEN AWAKE FOR MONTHS, AFTER THE WAR AGAINST GUNMAR?!
AND IT NEVER OCCURRED TO YOU TO TELL HIM?
No, no, itâs fineâMerlin needed to go through the protagonistâs trauma arc. At least it served a purposeâitâs not like Douxie wanted to spend time with you, after spending his whole life serving you.
Yeah, Merlin wasnât a father figure to Jimâ he already had Blinky and Strickler. Merlinâs a jerk to him. Oh no, his Vespa. Poor thing.
But Merlin spent so much time with Jim that he barely had time to see Douxie. And when he does, itâs only for:
*Merlin dies dramatically in Douxieâs arms and leaves him his only prized possession, so that now he can carry on the mantle of master wizard and have the power to save the world* No big dealâitâs not a burden thatâs going to affect him psychologically. After all, itâs nothing compared to turning a teenager into a troll; other peopleâs problems can waitâother peopleâs trauma isnât important when the protagonist is here.
LETâS GET BACK TO YOU, JIM! GIVE HIM MORE SCREEN TIME!
And then...
Douxie has to protect Nari and help everyone save Jim, because... why not? That selfless little guy DIES while trying to do so, and not only does he wake up after being in limbo, but he hops on a plane and gets out of there, because he needs to escape as fast as possible so the Arcane Order doesnât find himâliterally becoming a target to buy the others time to escape and survive.
Okay, so weâve laid the groundwork for the story. Douxie is strong enough to take on Bellroc and Skrael one-on-one and save the world, just as Merlin asked him to. After all, a trollhunterâs job is to take care of the trolls, and a master wizardâs job is to take care of the world and magic.
HOW THE HELL IS JIM THE PROTAGONIST AGAIN IF HE DOESNâT HAVE AN AMULET? THAT GUY ALREADY SERVED HIS PURPOSE.
JIM, YOU SHOULDNâT GET INVOLVED IN THISâLEAVE THIS TASK TO THE ADULTS.
JIM, WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING THERE!
JIM-
Jim-
honey-
my love--
kid-
I get that you want to help, but this is a fight between WIZARDS. THE TITLE SAYS SO.
DIDNâT ANYONE GIVE YOU THE SCRIPT?
...
...
HOW THE HELL DID THEY CHANGE THE SCRIPT? WHO APPROVED THIS!
No problem, Douxie still has all the tools to guide everyoneâafter all, heâs the one who knows the most about this. Heâs been studying it for a while and knows what theyâre up against. Right...
WHY THE HELL DOES BLINKY HAVE MERLINâS BOOK? HE HATED IT. ITâS LITERALLY THE ONLY THING HE LEFT DOUXIE.
JIM, WHY ARE YOU TELLING EVERYONE WHAT TO DOâno matter how much I love you, this fight isnât yours.
Itâs like Aja fighting Krelâs battles against racism. Krel is a character designed to tackle those story arcs. Douxie was literally created to fight the Arcane Order. We donât need another Trollhunter.
Excalibur is going to be claimed by Douxieâs magic; heâs so worthy that Nimune gave it to him, even when she no longer trusted Merlin. He has a pure heart.
This is Douxieâs storyâŚ
Oh, no, well. Another one of Jimâs stories⌠yeahâŚ
At least youâll have a plan that works, right?
Right?
Well⌠no, but that doesnât matter. Douxie trusted him; he let him play the heroâagainâand let whatever happens, happen. Just, please, take care of Archie; heâs Douxieâs only family. Make sure he comes backâafter all, itâs an easy mission.
WHAT DO YOU MEAN EVERYONE MANAGED TO GET OUT AND ARCHIE GOT TRAPPED FOR ETERNITY IN A TROLL MARKET THATâS INACCESSIBLE BY MAGIC?
FOR ETERNITY?
SERIOUSLY?
900 YEARS
AND HIS ONLY FAMILY WAS A CAT.
AND THEY COULDNâT SAVE HIM, BUT THEY COULD SAVE THE PROTAGONISTâS LOVE INTEREST!?!?
Well, never mind. Douxie still has one reason to live: to fulfill Merlinâs new, final request. To keep Nari safe.
Oh, no.
Oh, shit, the titans battle between Nari and Skrael.
And that really bugs me, because Douxie is strong enough to step in.
He was literally running, on his way to help Nari, to save her, and get her out of there. But NOOOOO, Jim had to grab him by the hand, stop him, and force him to stay behind becauseâbecause he just felt like it! Jim, nobody stops you when you want to jump right into a fight thatâs none of your business, but you stop others when they do? Double standards.
AndâŚ
Nari died. Just because Jim didnât let Douxie intervene.
Douxie would have died happy knowing sheâd gotten Nari to safety, but no. If Jim canât jump into the fight, nobody can.
Literally, Jimâs job was to make Douxieâs life miserable, without even realizing it.
And they donât give him time to process the death and loss of his loved ones. Douxie has to keep running and keep his head up, because Jim needs his background characters. Ah, but when Jim loses Toby, then they can do whatever they want to change the plot to their liking.
Jim didnât deserve Excalibur. And yes, maybe heâs not a âvillain,â but from Douxieâs perspective, heâs just a problemâone who, time and time again, robbed her of time to be with his family.
I donât like Jim.
BUT THATâS THE BEAUTY OF THE CHARACTER. You know a character is well-written when someone hates him for good reason, because stories are experienced differently through everyoneâs eyes.
No cause another thing
Jim IS a child. And you seem to be going into a lot of fucking detail about what Douxie went through â which YES IT SUCKS ASS â but jim has also gone through a SHIT TON.
Jim ALSO doesnât have a father. And he was younger than Douxie was when he was suddenly thrust into the mantle of protector of TWO RACES THAT HAVE BEEN AT ODDS LONGER THAN HES BEEN ALIVE.
And you mentioned his Vespa like itâs something stupidâ and that pissed me off cause clearly youâre minimizing what that was about.
It wasnât about the Vespa.
It was about two other things.
1. Merlinâs lack of concern for others property. He just destroyed a very expensive vehicle without consulting ANYBODY.
2. That wasnât just a Vespa. That was THE Vespa he got on the one day he hates MOST out of the year, the anniversary of his dad up and LEAVING HIM AND HIS MOTHER. Oh and he also had been nearly FUCKING MURDERED HOURS AGO AND STRUCK BY LIGHTNINGAnd who gave him the one thing he wanted most on his birthday? Blinky. His closest thing to a father figure. And they built that TOGETHER. The was just a fucking Vespa, that was the Vespa he and his basically father figure built TOGETHER. His mother got him a blender by the way (the same blender Merlin used to turn Jim into a troll btw so 2/2 of his birthday presents were used by Merlin against jim.)
And on the subject of Jim being the reason Merlin ditched Douxie.
Jim didnât fucking know about that. And alsoâ why are you blaming Jim? Merlin did that.
Literally all of your points are either things Jim did that are kinda stupid and he atoned for later, yes he was kinda of a dick to Douxie but so are most teens and he is more than nice to the guy afterward, or things that your blaming him for when itâs MERLINS DOING.
Douxie doesnât even not like Jim, he vibes with the guy pretty well.
I think Merlin is the villain in Douxies story but apparently youâre not ready for that.
đđđ
Interesting point of view.
Genuinely, tell me more about it. (The Merlin being the villain on Douxie's story)
As I said, I love to hear others opinions. Please, carry on! đđđ
BTW, I'm being serious, like I'm not trying to be rude or anything. Just because I don't like a character doesn't mean I'm forcing my opinion on anyone. But if you see another character differently, go ahead and tell me! I love it when people get passionate and share their thoughts on the characters đĽşđĽşđĽş
Only Merlin could criticize âdark magicâ and then beat the crap out of a 16 year old and then turn said child into a half-troll half-human creature

As a big fan of the Rottmnt varsity jackets you've been selling, I'm curious! You have a tip goal for new collections on your kofi, do you have plans for what those new collections might be? Would they be more Rottmnt related things, other fandom/original works, maybe both?
I'm planning on doing designs in other franchises!
And about ROTTMNT, I am currently working on a more affordable line.
Yes, the leather jackets will still be available, but I'm going to launch a version made of cotton and felt, so it will be lighter, faster to produce, and, of course, cheaper. I'm just waiting for the samples to arrive!
Jim will be fine-
Master Wizard is humbled by the king.
So, someone asked me more info about this AU, and it might had woke something inside me. I would like to add more to this lore.
TW: I guess?
So, Douxie is the master wizard of Camelot, he made a Blood Oath to the crown, to Jim, to follow him no matter what, and to be loyal to his orders. Douxie crowned him king to both human and magic kind, and in the process bonded his magic to the Oath.
But what happens when the kind heart of the king you once knew starts to fill with darkness and rage? What if the pressure of the crown is so much he slowly forgets who he is.
This idea is a little mix I made a few years ago, from something @sakon76 said once, and a little bit of werewolf dinamics.
âThe divine kings, have the power to make everyone around them follow them. Their word is peopleâs commandâ. So let it be.
Douxie didnât just made an oath, he sealed his magic to Jimâs will. Jim knew the power that he got when he became a divine king, but never used said power to force, manipulate, or hurt anyone. He never forced Douxie to follow his orders, he allowed him to have free will. But then- things changed.
Douxie new the pressure on Jimâs shoulders. He knew he was afraid to loose Claire. He understood- but still⌠he had never saw Jim so mad before-
And it doesnât matter how many years youâd spent getting to know someone⌠the truth is, you never really know another person completely. And someone who claimed to be your friend, your brother, your family, could turn out to be a monster. Even if he didnât do it on purpose.
Douxie learned in a hard way, that Jim was not his family, but his king. And that you should never disobey the king.

I know its been a few years, but I wonder what the peace treaty of your AU looked like, were there monster involved? Doesn't have to be a illustration, just hearing your ideas would be nice too
Damn, I never got to actually answer this.
First things first. Letâs establish the basic rules of this world. The main idea is to bring all these worlds together so they can coexist in harmony, without breaking the magic canon of each one.
Humans live apart from magical creatures. There are places where magic is kept secret, where trolls are considered either unreal or mere legends (such as in Arendelle or Berk, where people only speculate about the existence of these beings, or very few know of them). Dragons are hunted on the Viking islands, and a few other kingdoms have constant encounters with them; peace has not been an easy option.
As for the wizards, there was a witch hunt many centuries ago. Humans viewed magic as something burdensome and impure, and they hunted down so many witches that they eventually went into hiding. Merlin became a legend, and over the years, he came to be regarded as a godâjust like in the Arthurian legends. I like to think that Merlin raised Douxie from a young age, that he found him and took him under his wing, because the boy had magic, and he had lost his family. It was during this witch hunt that Merlin taught Douxie about the power of his magic and helped him achieve immortality at a young age, more out of necessity to survive than for any other reason. He never wanted the curse of inmortality on his son, but he couldn't leave him to die in the trails.
Very few wizards remain on earth, but they are truly powerful. Legend has it that a wizardâs blessing is the guide to a peaceful future, and that if he encounters a worthy being, a just King will be born, who will bring peace to the land. Just like in Magi âyes, the anime based on Aladdin and Sinbadâ. So the master wizards are like Magi. Or at least, thatâs what the legend says. If a Magi finds a human he deems worthy, their paths will intertwine, and the Magi will guide that human until he becomes a king. But that⌠is just a legend.
Someone said in a discord group once, that Jim was a... Mighty king? Predestinated king? Godly king? I don't remember, but he was Predestinated to become one, and that he would be powerful. I'm pretty sure Sakon and BluHeaven had mentioned it before, many many years ago.
Anyways! Merlin met Arthur, and his magic told him that the legend was true. It told him to trust, and that if he helped Arthur, he would bring the rebirth of the magical world. Merlin made a Blood Oath to Arthur âa form of magic that bound his magic and his free will to remain loyal to his King. And Arthur founded Camelotâ. But the Blood Oath was a double-edged sword.
Over time, Merlin realized that his magic responded to Arthurâs will, not his own. Arthur brought prosperity to humans... but not to the trolls. And so the war against Gunmar and Morgana began. It was during that war that Douxie and Merlin created the amulet to forge a trollhunter and stop the barbarism before more blood was shed. Yes, they had proven the existence of magical creatures and the power of magic, but at what cost.
Jim Lake was nothing more than a peasantâs bastard; he didnât have the blood to be a knight. But even so, he decided to join the battle. It was him who stopped Gunmar; it was him who fought for peace and advocated for the rights of magical creatures. And Douxie... finally understood what Merlin saw in Arthur, because he saw it in Jim.
Or that's what he tough
Jim didn't just become the trollhunter; he became the bridge between the trolls and the humans.
But no one was going to accept a king without noble blood or a heart of stone to lead their kingdoms. That is where Douxie, to establish peace between the two, takes the same Blood Oath that Merlin took. And he binds his magic and his loyalty to Jimâs crown, who promises to protect and give sanctuary to as many creatures as he can, and to protect magic, turning Camelot into a sanctuary.
Over the years, the power of Jimâs treaty became so well known that it spread to other kingdoms throughout the entire moor. The kings who joined Jim became part of what we now know as âArcadia.â
Most kingdoms know something about magic, and decide to join Jim, in fear of being against them. The kingdom of Rosas has a wizard as king, Arendelle is full of magic and wonder, everyone knows the sun power of Corona, and Berk was the last to join the treaty after Stoic made peace with dragons. The clans of DunBroch, MacGuffin, Macintosh, and Dingwall are not part of the treaty, but they didn't start war with them or join any conflict, even when they had previous problems with Berk Vikings, because after the berkians joined Arcadia... They weren't willing to find fight against all their allies. They do not believe in magic, at least not most of them. Ironic, because that lands are Douxie's homeland.
About monsters...
There is Pitch Black. And the dark magic... Who is slowly taking over the kingdoms, and treating the magic as an own. Pitch is willing to destroy the heart stones of Arcadia, and take control over the land.
And other monster involved?
More than a Physical monster/creature. There is the Blood Oath.
Because yeah, Jim is a great king for years, and he is hearth is made of gold. But when the dark magic starts to become dangerous, it puts Claire's life at risk (she is a shadowmancer). And he will do everything in his power to keep his wife safe, even if that means pushing every boundary of the people near him, to do so. The problem arises when blood ties interfere with a person's free will... or, more specifically, a wizard's. And when that happens, the wizard loses control over his own gang and himself, becoming nothing more than a puppet or an extension of Jim. And what is a Wizard without his magic... But a shell.
And maybe... Just maybe... Douxie is the one who actually needs the champions, and not Jim.
If you have more questions, feel free to ask. đđ
Hey! Iâve seen your artworks of your champions of Arcadia AU and I love them!! Did you ever write any fanfic for the story of it? If so I would love to read it! (Also I know that itâs a few years old by now but I just discovered it and Iâm so interested lol)
I was going to write a fanfic, but it would be way too long and I had not the time.
But I have a bunch of short ideas and snippets of important scenes, of the main plot.
The problem is that it was more focused on the TOA part. The idea was that the king of Arcadia, Jim, found out about a profecy, and needed to find and reunite four champions to complete said profecy.
The champions in question, where... You guessed it. The big four.
I don't know if I should publish the snippet scenes as one shots, and join them as a series in AO3.
