âMost of what you think you know about Maslowâs hierarchy of needs is wrong.
This is the model that we all learned in psych 101 is wrong [image of Maslowâs pyramid is shown] where our basic physiological needs are at the bottom of the pyramid and achieving oneâs full individual potential is at the apex.
What you may not have known is that Maslow spent 6 weeks with the Blackfoot First Nation in the summer of 1938. He learned about their worldview and the Blackfoot Tipi, appropriated and misrepresented their perspective to establish his own Maslowâs hierarchy, and then didnât give them credit.
[Image of Maslowâs pyramid and Blackfoot tipi shown, described below]
According to the Blackfoot Tipi, self-actualization is at the bottom of the pyramid. In the middle we have belonging and community actualization, where people take care of each other and help each other with their basic needs. And at the top, we have cultural perpetuity, which is teaching each other how to live in harmony with the land and achieve community actualization through generations.
It makes so much sense, right? Taking care of oneself is not enough. We need to take care of each other and our community.
This is why we need to decolonize psychology.â
If anyone wants to learn more about this I suggest watching the late Narcisse Blood's interviews on Maslow and the influence of Blackfoot worldviews on his work thru the Blackfoot Digital Library, they're very in-depth
Eldon Yellowhorn also discusses Maslow and Blackfoot ways of knowing but I forget which interview it's in

what do you think about the links between TOR and the US government?
The US government invested in the development of onion routing (the technology behind the Tor Project - they donât have as strong connections to the Tor Project itself) and use it in their own operations when security is necessary
What that tells me is that itâs a good security tool lmao. If they want to develop something to protect their privacy in high-value situations they wouldnât put a backdoor or info leak into it, theyâd want it to be as airtight as possible. And since itâs all open-source, people can (and do) look at the code directly to verify that there arenât any backdoors or intentional vulnerabilities. We even have leaked internal documents from the NSA showing that they donât have any way to crack Tor if itâs used properly
The analogy I use is that this is like saying a gun that was developed with funding from the US military and is still in use by them must be a shitty unreliable gun, and if you tried to use it youâd just end up shooting yourself instead or something. No, actually thatâs probably a pretty damn good gun
the US govât doesnât need to crack it; they just run the nodes and take over people who run nodes in order to honeypot:
First of all, thatâs not even what a honeypot is
But to your actual claim: running nodes alone doesnât give them any particular advantage. Anyone can run a node
What theyâre doing is exploiting a well-known and unavoidable vulnerability in the onion routing system. In order to connect to the clearnet at all, your entry node must know who you are, and your exit node must know what youâre doing - the point is that no one ever knows both at the same time, and so that info isnât normally a threat to you. But if you happen to be routed through an entry and exit node that are both owned by the same entity by chance (which is very unlikely in the first place), they can run statistical analysis to very unreliably make connections between the entries and exits. Thereâs still no way to directly connect them, but you can sometimes make shaky deductions based on the exact times that they come in and go out
This isnât something that the Tor Project is sneakily hiding from anybody. This vulnerability is very public and well-researched, and theyâve taken a number of precautions to prevent it. Most notably, you now keep the same entry node (called a guard node) for long periods of time, and all entry nodes are vetted very strongly with only trusted nodes used. That makes it drastically less likely that this vulnerability could be exploited. Also, this vulnerability doesnât exist at all when using .onion sites, since there is no exit node in that case - the entire interaction takes place in the Tor network
But most importantly: what would you rather use, the Tor network which has a 0.001% chance of leaking a tiny amount of your information to the government, or the clearnet which has a 100% chance of being surveilled by the government at all times? This is like saying that masks are only 80% effective so youâre better off not wearing them
Itâs also important to note that this vulnerability actually gets harder to exploit as more traffic goes through the Tor network globally. If 10 connections go through your node in the same millisecond, youâll be much less able to pick them apart and make deductions like this. There are actually a lot of ways that Tor gets more secure when more people use it

British anti-trans groups are not part of the civil rights movement
Cardcaptor Emily has done an interesting study of British anti-trans activist groups. She has looked at to what extent their twitter followers overlap with the ones of womenâs, childrenâs and LGBT right activists.Â
After all, they claim that their anti-trans activism is meant to protect these vulnerable groups, so it would make sense that they were integrated with the wider network of humanitarian organisations.
It turns out there is very little or no overlap.
Hereâs Emilyâs twitter thread:
Anti-trans groups often claim that they are chiefly concerns with Womenâs, Childrenâs and LGBT rights / activism. When we look at the overlap between their followers and followers of activist groups we see very little evidence of any involvement at all.Â
Here is a matrix of the similarity between various anti-trans groups and other activist groups for causes they claim to be fighting for. Almost seems like two very separate communities doesnât it?
[The first six organisations listed represent anti-trans activists.]
The diagram above is darker when the two groups share many followers in common, and lighter when they share few. The highest score between an anti-trans group and the other groups listed is 17. Compared to the score of 64 for overlap between Womenâs Aid and Domestic Violence UK.
Slightly odd for for groups of people who claim to concerned about womenâs rights, childrenâs rights and LGBT rights to not really have ANY significant community connection to rights groups in those areas.
In fact, the communities seem so distinct, I started wondering what a network of these accounts might look like. I canât check all the followers, but I can look at the 13 main groups Iâve listen above.
SO hereâs there network, drawn on a circle. Thick green lines indicated mutual following. Thin blue arrows indicate that a group follows the one that the arrow points to (but they are not followed back). [The red dots indicate British anti-trans organisations.]
And would you look at that? All the anti-trans groups follow each other, and several follow mainstream organisations, but none of the mainstream orgs follow them back⌠Almost as though they arenât genuinely involved in any activism in those areas.
In fact, if we completely delete the one-way follows and keep only mutual follows⌠Huh, they really are two separate communities. However, the anti-trans group are ALL connected to each other, despite sharing little in common according to mission statements.
I think we can cast some SERIOUS doubt on the claims that these groups seriously represent - or are seriously involved with - activist or interest groups for women, children or LGBT people.
Read the thread with additional comments here.

When Tonatiuh, the Sun, had been born, and the light of the Moon had been turned off, the Teteo saw how the Sun remained static in the zenith. When questioned by a hawk, Tonatiuh told the Teteo that, in order to move through the Heavens, He would need Their blood in sacrifice. One by one, the Teteo were sacrificed by Ehecatl, the Wind, who offered the divine energy of Their blood to the Sun. Xolotl, however, refused to die and fled. Chased by the death, he was finally sacrificed in the shape of an axolotl. In this way, the Sun was able to complete His path until He set at night.
