He seems nice β³ Thank you, Crowley
waitβ¦.are any americans aware that the cia overthrew the democratically-elected premier of iran in 1953 because he wouldnβt concede to western oil demandsβ¦.and how that coup was the reason for the shahβs return to power, the iranian revolution, and the resulting fundamentalist dictatorshipβ¦..like, america literally dissolved iranian democracy and no one knows about it???
No. No we donβt know about it.Β
Americans arenβt told this shit.Β
The only thing weβre taught about any Middle Eastern country in school is that 1) the region exists 2) itβs where The War is happening and 3) Muslim people live there. Thatβs it. Maybe if youβre lucky youβll get into the Hammurabi Code and some early Babylonian stuff but American schools seem to think that if it happened outside Europe and before the colonial period, or makes America look bad and isnβt about A Very Watered Down Version of What Slavery Was, itβs not important.
Info on this is almost notoriously hard to find. Itβs not in any texts on American and Russian involvement in the Middle East during the Cold War that I can find. You have to specifically look for a book about the Shahβs return to power, and even then youβd be hard pressed to find a book like that at your local bookstore. Once you get into some higher level college courses you might know about it, but the people who can afford those are more likely to already be indoctrinated into a certain Way of Thinking (read: theyβre racist as shit) by the time they get there. And itβs almost like you have to know about it beforehand if you want to find information on it.
The only reason I knew about it is because thereβs a thirty second summary of the event in Persepolis. Those thirty seconds flipped my entire worldview.
βAll the Shahβs Menβ by Stephen Kinzer is a good, accessible text for people who want to know more about this.
I had to explain literally this to one of my co-workers, who is so fuckin racist against Middle Eastern people itβs insane.
Sheβs 60. She never heard of this.
As I was explaining this and how, during the Regan years, we funded Osama Bin Laden to fight against Russia, leading to the destruction of much of the infrastructure in the region, one of the plant workers came in to get his badge fixed.
He works in the quality control lab. He served 15 years active duty in the Army. Super smart guy, has a masters in chemistry and another masters in biology, raises saltwater fishΒ inΒ his spare time for sale, has the saltwater aquarium setup of the gods. Β Raises rare corals too, some of which he donates to be used in re-seeding reefs around the world, but thatβs a side tangent.
And he listened for a minute, then nodded and said βYeah. I was there during that. I helped train people to fight. They wanted us to help them build schools and hospitals, after, but we were only interested in them as cannon fodder. Left the whole area in ruins. I wasnβt surprised when they hated us for it later. Told people then it would happen. We let them know then that they were only valuable to America as expendable bodies. Why wouldnβt they resent us for that?β
And she just looked floored.
βSoβ¦β She started, after a few minutes. βWhat do you think of Trump?β
βI hate him. Heβs a coward and heβs going to get good people killed.β He didnβt even blink. β
She looked back and forth between us for a second, and then asked how I knew all this.
βI research things.β I said. βGoogle is great.β He nodded enthusiastically.
And she just sat there for a second and then said, really quietly, βI didnβt know.β
She lived through it.
American schools donβt teach you any of this sort of thing.
I thought of Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi too. Never underestimate the power of a good book.
Every year in my entire schooling in small town Indiana, weβd start the year studying the revolutionary war. By the end of the year we would reach world war 2. The next year, the cycle would repeat. Every year. Revolutionary war to world war 2. Rinse and repeat.
We never studied the Vietnam War. Korea. No current events. No ancient cultures. No history of other countries. When 9-11 happened I was in high school, and me and my classmates legitimately had no idea who would attack the U.S. or why. We were baffled. Because we were taught our entire lives that America is always the good guy.
History class in America is an utter joke.
oh come on sometimes weβd also learn about the magical wonders of laissez-faire economics because that was the turning point of civilization you see
I love Gillian Anderson
The End.
Can't wait to see the buddy comedy hijinks of these two π

Watching a super hero movie directed by a woman is like putting glasses on for the first time.
I didnβt realize how much I had to squint through the βmale gazeβ till suddenly, miraculously, I didnβt have to.
There were absolutely NO eye candy shots of Diana. There were Amazons with ageing skin and crows feet and not ONE of them wore armor that was a glorified corset. When Diana did the superhero landing, her thigh jiggled onscreen.
Did you hear me? HER FUCKING THIGH JIGGLED. Wonder Womanβs thigh jiggled on a 20-foot tall screen in front of everyone.
Because she wasnβt there to make men drool. She wasnβt there to be sexy and alluring and flirt her way to victory, and that means she has big, muscular thighs, and when they absorb the impact of a superhero landing, they jiggle, and.thatβs.WONDERFUL.
Thank you, Patty Jenkins, for giving me a movie about a woman, told by a woman,so I can see it through my eyes, not some dude bro whoβs there for boobs and butts.
Motion to declare βConfusinglyβ to be this yearβs βHarold, theyβre lesbians.β (x)
Just a bunch of Amazon gal pals
Be honest, how frequently do you "creep" on Tumblr??? I feel like you know what more than you should and definitely way more than you let on....
I donβt know what youβre talking about (and you should all be ashamed of yourselves).Β
Bahahaha
How I imagine it will happen
PS: Has anyone done a video editing of Deanβs speech in 12x22 but with Cas instead of Mary??
Dean: My name is Dean Winchester. Sam is my brother. Mary Winchester is my mom. And Cast β β¦ Cas is my best friend. My name is Dean β¦ Winchester. My name β¦ My name isβ¦

Just finished season 13, and am super disappointed that that baby wasn't a baby. Ugh.
Y'all, Cas spent probably about $500+ on baby diapers for no fucking reason since jack was born full grown.
Him being full grown is such a disappointment π
