Wtf is dandadan and why do people like it. I skimmed the first episode just to watch some minor get assaulted and almost r worded by aliens. People like this shit, what the fuck is with people wanting these themes in every fucking anime like maybe stop it’s sick and feels like it’s just the animators and writers getting off and everyone is okay with it because “well it’s only in the first episode” YEA AND?? It still happened and don’t say it’s for the plot. They could’ve done something else. This is why I don’t watch anime’s anymore too much of this shit
I think the problem is that you skimmed it. Dandandan isn't something to watch lightly. I understand that it's uncomfortable to watch ,but that's one of the main themes in dandandan. It's isn't for the plot, it's for the social commentary. It's literally aliens and yokai(inhuman) trying to turn humans into more inhuman things. Rape (this isn't tictok, we don't have to censor ourselfs for the sake of advertisers) is never glorified in dandandan, but it is a present theme , because it is a very real, present theat in real life. Dandandan is meant to make viewers uncomfortable! Dandandan was never a fun, zany romcom, it's a social commentary about how systems and patterns of abuse shape and dehumanize the people who live in that society and the way the victims and support groups find each other and rehumanize eachother. It's about taking back agency.
There's catharsis in watching something that recognizes this , and the joy of found family and solidarity. Not all anime is meant to be watched with your brain turned off. It's ok to be uncomfortable with works that have themes relating to sexual assault. You don't have to watch it. But don't assume that your skimming is all there is to a show, many are meant to be viewed critically and trust their audience to look beyond what is explicitly told.

not Saw specifically but a slasher with a legit body count. Summer camp slashers are overplayed but I think it really works because it's the type of thing the Scooby gang WOULD get caught up in.
like some of the counselors didn't show up (got got) so the head counselor calls his younger cousin to see if him and his friends can fill in last minute. They show up and they're a bunch of nerds, one of them even has an anxiety dog, and they don't have a big role at first. It seems like the movie is setting them up as cannon fodder.
and then the deaths start and suddenly the nerds are locked the fuck in. The little one with the glasses actually fixed the phone line and is taking stock of all their supplies in case the vehicles go out. The counselor's cousin who seemed like a himbo has set up a perimeter and made makeshift alarms for all the doors and windows, knows all the entry points. The anxious one and his dog are keeping the mood up with the snacks and activities that were supposed to be for the kids, making sure nobody panics and starts making dumb decisions. Somebody tried to grab the redhead and she flipped him over and had him zip-tied before anybody noticed. Weren't they a D&D group or something? What is happening???
