Today I was out enjoying the loafer weather, and came across the character in an alley. It always concerns me when outside cats are friendly with strangers, but this kitty is obviously well-fed and happy.Â

SE photographer @whitethrill in his exceptionally rare loafers from New England Outerwear. This alleyway is behind Antique Taco, where we had lunch yesterday. I have grown tired of the lifestyle-porn marketing used for many heritage goods. We need fewer cosmetic campfires and more trash-strewn back alleys. This is where the clothes are being worn. This is our natural habitat.

I interviewed Dr. Sophie Woodward, lecturer in sociology at the University of Manchester, about the sociological importance of blue jeans You can listen to the interview by clicking here.

Jeff K. talked about landscape architecture and fatherhood at the end of our “Style for the New Dad” story, and he even did a few sketches for us: http://someone-else.us/articles/new-dad-style

I’m holding my mother’s wedding ring, from her marriage to my father. This ring was recently repurposed by a designer in Detroit, who used it to create a new family heirloom for me. That story is coming soon on www.someone-else.us.
I wrote about sobriety and depression, and how Sturgill Simpson relates to both: http://someone-else.us/stories/sturgill-simpson-metro-lollapalooza

A glimpse into the atelier, or workshop, at the back of the Shockoe Atelier retail space in Richmond, Virginia.Â
From our “An American Myth” story.
“What we did, we took a workplace uniform and turned it into a fashion icon. That's how we justify what we are doing, with doing it by hand and all the variation and research of fabrics.”
—Pierre Lupesco from Shockoe Atelier, talking about Shockoe’s blue jeans. Pierre is pictured here on the left, with his wife, Brigitte, and their son, Anthony. We documented Pierre’s journey from launching his own clothing line in the 1970s to opening Shockoe Denim with Anthony in 2012, and finally rebranding as Shockoe Atelier earlier this year—all in our “An American Myth” story.
My namesake Jarvis Old Boys from Shockoe Atelier. I can’t deny I’m proud that they’re the most expensive jeans that Shockoe makes, using Kuroki denim dyed with natural indigo and persimmon. For a deep dive on the transition from Shockoe Denim to Shockoe Atelier, check out our “An American Myth” story.
