I’ve been thinking about this song and I thought I’d share a little tidbit about it:

For me, this song has helped carry me through my last year of high school. In fact, this whole album has. But this song specifically resonates with me the most.

Transitioning in the middle of my high school career wasn’t the most fun thing in the world, and I’ve run into a lot of problems. I had so much unfair stuff happen to me because of my identity. So I’ve never felt like I’m part of the community of my school nor have I felt like the administration here has ever had my back. It got to a point where this year, I was admitted to psychiatric once and nearly went in a second time.

But that second time kinda changed something; I met these two EMTs (emergency services were there because I called the cops on myself before I could do something). This one lady, who I wish I could remember her name and thank her, had told me about her brother. He was trans, and he felt the same way I felt when he was in high school. But as soon as he got into college, he began to thrive. I remember that story filed me with a sense of spiteful survival.

I think I played some songs off this album in the ambulance ride to the hospital (they let me choose music for the ride lol) and I remember one of them was this song.

I play this song when things feel hopeless. It’s a song that has so many lines in it that I resonate with. But there’s one I want to be able say in the back of my mind while I look my principal in the face on graduation night.

“I’d like to do more than survive, I’d like to rub it in your face!”

I’m so glad to be able to go on HRT. Like, yeah it was started at the very end of my teen puberty. I still have the deep voice and other traits that people say are “masculine”, but that hasn’t stopped me.

Just this school year, I started dating again. Just this year I figured out I was polyamorous and met my other girlfriend.

I’m kicking old habits, and I know part of that is because I’m happier. I’m at a hard time of life, absolutely, but I’m nearly done with high school and I found a passion in writing songs and music. And I’ll be to do all of this stuff as an authentic me.
