So I found an interesting article that just came out! Seeing how Solar Opposites just came out, I decided to try and do a little more deep diving in it, because OH NO ITS HAPPENING AGAIN I LOVE IT AND AM OBSESSED
Justin Roiland and Mike McMahan (the show's creators) answer some questions in this article I found. Some highlights I found (if y'all don't wanna read the whole thing, understandably) is:
•Terry is just an adorably trashy person who loves trashy things.
“Terry loves the trashy fun things. Everything we all kind of love about Earth but maybe aren’t proud of, like food and movies and TV and celebrity worship and gossip … and consumerism.”
•Korvo is extremely relatable where he hates Earth and humans (don't we all deep down?) and is an introvert, but still loves being included in everything.
“A lot of the time Korvo is claiming he hates everything, but you’re getting a glimmer that he wants to be included... We all have a little bit of a Korvo in us where you’re kind of an introvert, you don’t always like to go out, but you want people to want you to go out.”
•Korvo and Terry are canonically Yumyulack's and Jesse's parents, respectively. They're not technically offsprings, but rather replicants that are
"...grown from pieces of the adults planted in a special soil."
•Given how the "kids" are "born", it's also mentioned that their species are plant based. Still human-like in many MANY ways, but I really hope the show delves more in this along the way (they already mentioned one way they're different than humans, in which they don't go through puberty).
•Just a cool fact, but Solar Opposites was worked on and created during the big break between Seasons 2 and 3 of Rick and Morty. It was originally created for Fox, but was passed and taken up by Hulu, which is actually a HUGE WIN for them.
The move to the streamer opened up new creative possibilities for the show beyond the freedoms its TV-MA rating allows in terms of language and content.
I'm SO freakin' excited about seeing more into this show and learning more about the characters and their race.
