an author i love just tweeted about how âbig joy and small joy are the sameâ and how she was just as content the other night eating chocolate and cuddling her dog as she was on her Big Trip to new york and honestly. i think thatâs it. this morning i was listening to an audiobook while baking shortbread in my joggers and i realised i really didnât care what Big Things happened in my future as long as i could keep baking and reading at the weekend and maybe that is the kind of bar we have to set to guard ourselves against disappointment. just appreciate and cherish the mundane stuff and see everything else as a bonus.
this is almost certainly a post ive made before but when a characterâs grief is so strong it fully alters the form of the narrative itself⌠moby dick being so much longer than strictly necessary because ishmaelâs grief made him stall for time in the telling of the tragedy⌠harrow the ninth being in second person because harrow was so grief-stricken that she herself was not capable of making narrative sense of the events of the novel and so someone else had to do itâŚ. do u know what i mean
ok WAIT. SO TRUE
omfg
HELP as the game progresses and more and more people die the display is slowly changing from full color to black and white
Act 5 Act 2 in Homestuck is also I think very similar to how Ishmael in drags out the telling of the story because the grief is too horrible to bear. The trolls killing each other on the meteor happens in the span of a few minutes but takes hundreds of pages to be be told because it is constantly derailed bc the characters cannot process what is happening to them.Â
Karkat starts another memo he knows is pointless and ends up arguing with Gamzee and past Eridan. Terezi goes through her legislacerator roleplay complete with plush scalemates to avoid confronting Vriska. Even the narrative itself derails itself with a joke about Rufio and then cutting away from that to John to get away from the meteor, because the reality of terrified, hopeless children murdering each other alone in space is too grim to be faced head on.Â
THIS person gets it. how can you expect a living thing to be unchanged by grief
what a week huh?
happy one year anniversary to this clusterfuck of a week
Jesus fucking Christ this is somehow both only a year ago, but also just a year ago?????

THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE (2013)
Directed by Francis Lawrence Cinematography by Jo Willems Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1 and 1.43:1
HAPPY 5TH BIRTHDAY, HEARTSTOPPER! (SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2016 - SEPTEMBER 1ST, 2021)
i couldnât let this anniversary pass by, so here it is: the story so far, all condensed into 2 pages :)Â
iâve been following heartstopper since early 2017, meaning iâve had the absolute honour of watching (nearly) all of nick and charlieâs story unfold in real time. i was 15 then (nickâs age in chapter 1!) and now iâm almost 20. itâs strange to think i grew up alongside these boys!
thank you, alice, for all the friends iâve made because of heartstopper, all the love you continue to show for creators that are inspired by it, and, of course, for a wonderful story that is still so important to me in more ways than i can put into words. iâm glad we still have some time with nick and charlie left.

I'm going absolutely bonkers over this
i am obsessed with the reoccurring use of âthe girl in the dressâ in âdear johnâ, and i have always thought it was such a clever use of language. the way she is being described by only two identifying features, being a âgirlâ and wearing âa dressâ suggests the purely sexualised way that âjohnâ sees the narrator, and draws on sexist stereotypes  by suggesting that he sees her as weak and defenseless because she is so âtypicallyâ feminine. the lack of names and descriptions also means that this could be any one of the âlong list of traitorsâ in âjohnâsâ life crying the whole way home, which shows how they are interchangeable and completely replaceable to him like material objects. i think this is so interesting and think it works as a comment on the objectification of all women in society, as well as the victim-blaming culture we live in. far too many women have been that girl in the dress who cried the whole way home, and rather than blaming the man who caused their emotional trauma, those suffering women have just been told that they âshould have knownâ and the narratorâs first instinct is to blame herself. itâs essentially a parallel of the âthey were asking for itâ ideology. the best part is how taylor subverts this though, john is then portrayed as someone who plays with fire, through the image of the girls that he has âburned⌠outâ. the song then flips the narrative when the narrator steals his matches and sets the town alight, because if john was playing with fire⌠well then he was obviously asking to get burned, right? the narrator knows this as the final lines fade out with her changing âi should have knownâ for âyou should have knownâ. itâs calling out double standards at itâs finest

One time a friend told me that if she wanted to have a chill night she would come to me and ask for tea and a book to read. I didnât like tea at the time, but I always made sure my cupboards had them in case she needed a quiet night. One time I told my boss that I loved oranges, but couldnât peel them because of my nails. For a year he made sure to peel me one at least once a week. Once my friends gave me a made up superlative of âmost likely to have a pen they could borrowâ and ever since Iâve made sure I always carry a pen with me. A long time ago, my high school librarian told me that no one would care what my grade in my sophomore chemistry class was if Iâm bringing them doughnuts and asking them about their day.
Sometimes friendship is about carrying pens and peeling oranges. But the point is, surrounding yourself with people who you want to do the little things for. The point of it all is bringing in the doughnuts because youâve found the people who deserve the doughnuts.
And Iâm so fucking lucky, and I donât always say it or even think it. Because I have friends who send me letters and who told me when the cafeteria at work had chopped tomatoes and who want to watch Scream with me and it just hits me sometimes that this world can do the ugliest things to people, but as long as I still have a friend who will point out dogs on the sidewalks to me then I have something amazing to live for. And as long as I have pals who I want to make peppermint bark for, then I have a reason to keep pushing this world to be better.
âSo, when did you decide to propose?â âOh⌠ah, well, we were just hanging out one night and I looked over at Amy and it hit me. Sheâs incredible and my best friend, and I just knew in that moment⌠I wanted to spend my life with her.â
