She barely suppresses her groan as one of the old men begins yet another soliloquy on the grand olden days, covertly pulling her phone out of her pocket to pass the next fifteen or so minutes more productively by scrolling her emails, when she notices she has an unread text message.
I was just thinking about you.
Lena doesn’t hide her smile quickly enough, and it draws attention away from the old man momentarily. “Find something amusing, Ms. Luthor?” She shakes her head no, waving a hand for the meeting to continue, and turns her attention back to her phone. Bubbles appear, signaling Kara is writing more.
Lena watches with bated breath, always wanting to hear from Kara, always wanting to know what she has to say. And selfishly, wanting to hear what Kara has to say about her. (She looks forward to it, the soft compliments, the flirting, the admissions of love. All of Kara’s words are important—passionate and breathtaking—but when she talks about Lena, well, Lena starts to believe there’s something in her to love after all.)
Finally, the bubbles stop and a new message appears: I’ve decided that our hands fitting perfectly together means we were meant to be. What are your thoughts?
Lena stops pretending to listen in on the meeting, texting Kara back instead: I couldn’t agree more.
