Robby immediately downloaded instagram like a desperate loser, taking ten frustrated tries at his login before he finally got access. He swiped back to the screenshots Jack had sent, searching up Dennisβs account and waiting like a lovesick puppy for him to come back home and accept his request.
Robby exited their text thread, buzzing under his skin as he opens his instagram. Clicking on the notification, he was redirected to Dennisβs account. If anyone heard a weird strained noise fall out his mouth at the sight of his face β no they didnβt.
He embarrassingly sulked at the small number of posts before making his way through each and every one of them, viewing every slide with profound focus as he hit the heart button each time β not knowing it notified Dennis. You canβt blame him, heβs literally 50-ish.
Robby beamed as he saw the most recent post, the pictures of Ivy making his heart melt. Dennis was the only person Ivy seemed truly happy with, besides himself. Even then, it took him around a month to fully gain his trust. His boy did it in less than a day. He clicked on the comment section carefully, chuckling to himself as he read the comments left by his colleagues. Feeling bold, he typed out two heart emojis before clicking send. Whether the heart was for Ivy or Dennis, or both β no one will know.
Robby snaps out of his Dennis-induced trance as his phone starts ringing, a call from Dennis himself.
βHey, kid!β Robby speaks into the phone happily, not quite glad that it was a voice call, but he was willing to settle for anything. Dennisβs voice quivers, a pained shudder before he starts talking. βHey uh, where do you keep your first aid? I didnβt wanna snoop trying to find it.β He grits out, his voice dripping with embarrassment when really, there was no need to feel as such. Robby immediately sits up on his bed, heart dropping to his stomach. βAre you hurt? What happened? Do I need to call an ambulance?β Dennisβs laugh starts to boom through the speaker, leaving Robby completely confused.
Dennis talks through broken laughs. βOh god, I completely predicted that reaction. Iβm fine, and Iβm a doctor if you forgot, no need for an ambulance. Your angelic daughter was in the kitchen with me while we were making dinner. She thought itβd be a good idea to jump on the counter. She knocked over my only mug, got scared, and jumped on me, and absolutely wrecked my arm.β A hiss escaped Dennis as he talked, the cut wasnβt deep but it surely caused a lot of irritation. Ivy had ran away and hid under the bed, which pleased Dennis. He did not want to look at that devil right now.
βJesus.β Robby laughs, his shoulders sagging once he was sure Dennis wasnβt seriously hurt. βHmm okay go to my room, the second drawer of my cabinet, itβs probably under the clothes. And please snoop around when it comes to stuff like this, what if I didnβt answer the phone?β Robby lectures, voice gruff as he tried to drill it into Dennis once again β my house is your house. He hears Dennis move around the house, a weird intimacy spilling into it once he realised, Dennis was walking around his house, like he knew every nook and cranny personally. By now, maybe he did.
βThen I wouldβve proudly bled to death.β Dennis quips, making Robby let out a sarcastic βha ha.β Dennis shuffled to the bedroom, sliding open the second drawer. He chokes on his breath, realising the drawer was filled with Robbyβs remaining underwear β not that it bothered him. Nope. Heβs not a weirdo whoβs gonna flush at the sight of his bosses boxers. Nope. He held his breath and fished around until he found the first aid kit. βAh. Got it.β
βBe careful kiddo. I wouldβve stitched you up myself if I was there.β Robby said it so casually that it hurt. Heβd be willing to stitch Dennis up whenever prompted, and that made him feel fuzzy and cared for in a way he hadnβt felt before. βIβm starting to think you actually did forget that I work in the same ER as you?β Dennis teases, swiftly wiping the blood off and disinfecting the scratches as he wrapped a bandage around his arm. βSorry kid, you know Iβm always worried about you.β Robby confessed. He was about to take it back, throw out a ridiculous excuse about how he meant it in a βprofessionalβ way, when theyβd been anything but. However, before he could get a word in, Dennisβs soft voice is heard from the phone.
βThatβsβ¦very sweet. Iβm lucky to have someone worry about me. Iβve never had that before.β Robby could hear the smile etched on Dennisβs pretty face. He felt his face bunch up into a grin as well, an involuntary response. The vulnerability made his heart beat in his ears, almost sounding out Dennisβs name.
Den-nis, Den-nis, Den-nis.
βAlways, kid.β They sit in silence as Dennis finished cleaning everything up. βYou good? I hope Ivy didnβt get you too bad.β Robby winced. βAll good now! Itβs okay, sheβs still impossibly endearing.β Dennis giggles. βThat, she is.β
Robby manages to keep Dennis on the phone for hours, both of them talking to one another lazily about everything and nothing while laying comfortably in bed, falling asleep to the sound of each others steady breathing.
