Thinking about WORLD2 again. (Broken November flavoured and heavily headcanoned but enjoy at your leisure)
It's 2018. Presumably a small group of people who met online, or maybe are just keeping in touch after moving away from each other, decide to start a factions server. The host invites their little brother too, he's nice, he gets admin privileges because he can be trusted not to blow everyone else's stuff up.
Over time two main factions emerge, the host and his brother stay out of it- wouldn't be fair if they chose sides, right? One clan is primarily nomadic, the other mainly based underground, but it's leader insists on returning to his base on the surface, and there's a room he won't let anyone else into...
And then the first one disappears: the host's little brother. Since the host has moved out he's struggling to find out what happened. Maybe they weren't on the best terms with their parents. They step away from the server for a while. Someone leaves, someone joins, hoping to recruit the "new" player, a member of the underground clan gives her a tour. She repays him by stealing it in the name of her clan. It was an alt account. The host deletes the discord server.
Forced out of the caves, the underground clan moves into a large base on a hill by their leader's home. They don't go down underground too much anymore, except one who volunteers to do all the mining. Everyone's grateful, something feels off down there now...
He builds a pool and his clanmates get him a fishing rod. They let him keep the enchanting setup in his room.
Then the first cavebase member disappears. In his place his clanmates find a strange block. On the surface, one clan member logs off, not knowing when he'll be back. He was the only one they said a proper goodbye to. The miner vanishes as well.
And then the leaders vanish. One following a strange noise into the cave, another venturing into the woods for supplies. One returns, but something feels off.
Wasn't he on good terms with his family?
And then the chunk vanishes. The surface members explore it, and as the leader slips out of sight, something drags the final cavebase member below the bedrock.
And at last, as the final survivor stands on the roof of his clan's home, trying to figure out how the nether portal should fit into the roof, the game is up. And on the roof of this hell,
[[J U S T C L O S E Y O U R E Y E S A N D W A I T]]
And finally, the servers guardian angel, the first to fall, saves the only one he can the only way he can,
