Liked the lesson, didnât like the â seeing these white people squirm gave me joyâ response. It just immediately ruined my mood. Probably because I HATE generalizations of large groups of people, I really do. Its entirely possible that they just felt awkward in this conversation, but maybe that's just me projecting as a socially awkward person.
Sigh, I just hate that discrimination is even still a fricken problem and then the double standards of generalizations and the like that pop up actually donât help.. I literally agree with everything else but that line just doesnât sit well with me, and Iâll be forward and say that Iâm white and another part is that I donât like to be generalized (and Iâm sure that NOBODY likes to be generalized, even if that might be a generalization?), and I empathize quite easily. No, this wouldnât âmake me squirmâ unless people started staring at me, and that's, because Iâm socially awkward, do to an actual disorder. That doesnât exempt me from anything, this is true, I agree with that. I just prefer to judge people on an individual basis, but unfortunately, there is a very valid point to all of this. I canât quite explain it anymore, but it just doesnât sit right with me, in the same way it doesnât sit right with me when any group is generalized with a sweeping statement.
Maybe it has something to do with me having been bullied a lot as a kid, maybe its because of how I was raised and taught to treat everyone fairly, maybe its because I have Aspergers syndrome, or maybe just because I empathize extremely easily, or maybe its because of some combination of all of this and more, but I just apply the same standards to everyone as people. Maybe thatâs wrong in some way, I donât know, but I just felt like I had to try and get my point across.
