it's so frustrating that a majority of analysis of padme's character is measured by the metric of how a female character should behave rather than anything she actually does or says in the films
and all four of them are wrong!

was on discord watching my friend (@skyberie) draw and we're quietly doing our own thing for like 15 mins and she breaks the silence with "anakin is not dominant in bed. i mean not really. that should be obvious. why do people lie?"

the anidala "married too young/early" opinion holds zero ground for me, just for the fact i married at the same age as anakin did (19), and am in a mature, healthy and well functioning relationship, with lots of love and respect. marriage at any age requires work, and will face conflict. i know early marriage may not work out well in some situations, but doing so does not automatically equate to bad consequences or bad dynamics.
to write off their relationship as less than, simply because of that, makes no sense!
also have we forgotten the fact that they are like, absolutely enamoured with eachother, and their devotion runs incredibly deep? the topic of an early marriage when it comes to anidala, is pretty much irrelevant in the way their love transcends. as if them being married quick and young, would be the source for any of the conflict they faced?
Ok...genuine question here and I don't think I'm only one who's asked this but...
Did Obi-wan and Yoda never wonder that if Luke succeeded with killing Vader, how he would react if he found out that he was made to unknowingly commit patricide?
Because as it is knowingly committing patricide even if your dad was a horrible person takes a toll on one's psyche, it impacts a person's mental wellbeing and leaves a scar that never really heals for the most part.
It's also well known that Luke yearned for his dad like crazy and we know that both Yoda and Obi-wan were aware of this.
Now imagine unknowingly committing patricide when you've been yearning for Mr. Paternity himself, coming to realisation that you now have the blood of the father you've been yearning for on your hands and there is absolutely nothing you can do to change that and knowing that the mentors you trusted knew you were killing your father but didn't stop you or care for how it would affect you if you found out, they were insisting upon it in fact. I'm pretty sure that's a good way to make a whole new Sith Lord no?
Did they not...consider what that would do to him, how that would genuinely and most probably break him?
star wars conversations are so fascinating to me, especially as they pertain to anakin. i find so many readings of his character uncharitable and in direct contradiction to the source material. quite often it’s to serve the narrative that the jedi are infallible and other times it’s due to a purposefully incomplete understanding of his character. this pervasive idea that anakin was always going to become a genocidal war criminal acting as a puppet for palpatine, flattens his character and story in such an offensive manner. it’s confounding how this line of thinking continues to persist even after all this time.
You’re so right. I entered this fandom when I was thirteen, sorta phased out around sixteen, and re-entered this year and… what do you mean everyone’s still having the same arguments. How are you all still wrong in the same ways like how are we not over this yet. Genuinely.
Anakin’s character is so important and interesting PRECISELY BECAUSE he was not a bad person. Because his fall was not inevitable. An Anakin who was doomed from the beginning by something in his nature is completely contradictory to the way circumstances contribute to tragedy.
Also I don’t understand how people seem to bristle at the idea that a good environment or good people could have contributed in any negative way to Anakin’s downfall. Pointing out that certain moments with the Jedi order or elements of their atmosphere contributed to his decisions and explains the trajectory some way really shouldn’t conjure a sudden defense of the Jedi order, because the Jedi haven’t really been attacked by that statement.
people who go 'nobody talks like that' about the prequel dialogues are so funny to me because what do you mean you missed the stylistic storytelling choice, the larger-than-life feel in everything from the dialogues to the set to match the larger-than-life narrative, and the nature of the three movies being a moving myth.
the dialogues are supposed to capture the epic macro emotions and events.
they capture the timeless and tragic romance of anidala as well as the brotherhood of anakin and obi-wan and its betrayal. they capture the masterful and devilish nature of palpatine, and the dogmatic, lost, and blind nature preceeding the fall of jedi. they also capture the demise of democracy and liberty at the hands of its own republic. that's why they are so quotable too.
they capture the fall of the chosen one.
they capture the tragedy of anakin skywalker.

Attack of the Clones novelization, R. A. Salvatore
a reminder that just because an anakin scene has ominous music playing in the background does not always equate to him being "evil", or having bad motives. it instead is meant to elude to complications, temptation, or conflict, within anakin. – or elude to the future. i like to watch movie reactors, react to star wars often, and 99% of the time they misread scenes on what anakin feels, due to the score of music.
the most common scenes i've noticed viewers misread or have the "he's scary, and evil!" reaction:
in aotc after padmé says "because it makes me uncomfortable" and the music picks up ominously before panning to a smiling anakin and he says "sorry my lady."
the meadow scene where padmé and anakin discuss politics. "that sounds like a dictatorship to me", and he teases her. "if it works."
the end of the fireplace scene "we could keep it a secret." (as if that means he's "evil"? but i notice people react badly to it. usually after the music picks up.)
the scene in rots where padmé tells anakin of her pregnancy, and he takes a moment to process, (music becomes eerie and dramatic) before saying the moment is the happiest of his life.
in none of these scenes is anakin behaving or thinking with ill-intent.
