There were enough of us to be like "Absolutely the fuck not," and put a stop to it, but I was absolutely flummoxed that people involved in a union would say that out loud. Working with more leftists now, it makes sense.

But I want to eat off of clean plates. So somebody is going to have to touch/clean those plates. And I respect that person and want them to be able to afford to live.

When I explained holiday scheduling (time off requests granted in order of seniority, shifts assigned in reverse order of seniority). Someone was angry and said that time off requests potentially being denied "wasn't in the spirit of the union". When I pointed out that our departments made like 30% of our annual revenue between Thanksgiving and New Years and that required production staff to be working, they said that we just needed to create a class of positions ineligible for the bargaining unit that wouldn't be able to request time off. (Which again, most of us figured we'd just rotate holidays or something, but assumed that some holiday production was mandatory.)

I think people on the left thinking about forms of labour can sometimes be worse than people on the right. People who have taken these positions generally just conceptualise them as something you need to do to get by, and there are particular employers where these positions are degrading but in general the jobs themselves aren't.

And some of those jobs are like, sure, you can throw almost any warm body at it and get it done adequately, but you still run into people where you're like "Holy shit, you're good at this."

Anyway I thought we could push on and make the date work but I have all of these memories of secrets that this you never chose to share, decisions that this you never made, and intimacies that this you never experienced. And it's kind of screwing with the vibe yeah. Also on the date it was really, blatantly clear that you're sixteen whereas I have memories of ruling a fantasy kingdom for thirty years so like... that's a problem all on its own. Anyway this you just feels more like a daughter to me. A daughter with the woman I gave my heart and soul to over and over and received like in return, only to lose her forever on the journey home. On the plus side I can definitely help you with your math homework now.

Tell me this, if the group "benefits" from the strong identity, why is it Alvin has to contractually bar Theo and Simon from pursuing solo careers? Why did he veto the proposed name change to "The Chipmunks" in 2013? Hell, if this is all about the group, as you claim, why is it that Alvin features on 67% of all AatC merch while only making up 31% of overall merch sales (and, as if the stats following his disgusting behavior during the 2022 Oscars is to be believed, dropping lower and lower to even 26%)? Admit it, Dave Seville's excuse that Alvin's presence adds any kind of shine to the group is a transparent lie to conceal the fact that Alvin's disastrous public life makes for cheap sales boosts.

anyway solos love to bring up A’s “behavioral issues” as if he didn’t spend half of last year absent from promotions trying to smooth over T’s violent confrontation with the paps. (which, because I’m an actual Chipmate, I would never turn into some theo hate train. this is what I’m saying, the scrutiny and narrativization of their project has created the justification to infringe on their personal lives in a way that keeps getting cyclically encouraged by people who are in it for the sport and moral victories, not the actual music or the art. I think we can all agree that the real villain is the exploitation of their passion for the craft that roped them into a lifetime commitment to careers they were not prepared for and they literally cannot escape 😕)
