Higgledy piggledy, turning and turning as gyres are widening, centers unheld,
things fall apart and thereâs anarchy everywhere; falcons fly freely and canât be compelled.
Dimming the tide there is blood in the water and everywhere customs of innocence drowned.
Held by the worst is a fervent intensity; lacking conviction the best run aground.
Surely there must be some kind of apocalypse; surely epiphany must be at hand!
Visions unbidden from Spiritus Mundi of something awakening out on the sand:
Head of a man with a leonine frame and a pitiless gaze thatâs as blank as the sun;
sleep became nightmare by passage of centuries long before eons of slumber were done.
Higgledy piggledy, beast of antiquity, imminent, just as the prophecies warn,
shambling slowly but revelatorily, slouching towards Bethlehem, there to be born.
All this discourse over who does "painting with light"
Hiroshi Nagai's paintings need sunglasses to look at.
They look like how it feels to walk across a parking lot on a 98° summer day without a speck of shade in sight.
They look like heaven but also like you'd burn your bare feet on the ground.
Even when you can see shade you know it's not enough and the minute you step out you'll be burnt to a crisp like a vampire.
And it's BEAUTIFUL
I'll throw in the wonderful Eizin Suzuki into this ring too, a man whose work just breathes light without actually using dynamic lighting in the usual way. It's no surprise both Nagai and Suzuki are both considered prolific in art pertaining to the city pop genre because they're able to paint these kinds of scenes with a delicate touch.
This feels like I could trip on that radio and fall right into that water, feeling the crystal waves as I drop in.
And this, a nice stroll down a resort strip, where my sunscreened skin could literally feel cooked if I leaned too close to the tiling.
And then a nice stretch of summer street, wherein you could see your face in the flushed red of that car provided it didn't blind you from its sunny reflections.
I don't think I even need to say anything more, Suzuki's a massive influence in how he even places colours so warmly in such unorthodox manner. It's a naturally sunkissed talent~ đ
I always assume the train will be so boring and I bring seven things to do but then I'm entranced by the wonderful window the entire time
a driver's lyke-wake
This ae nighte, this ae nighte, Â Â Â Â (Refrain:) âEvery nighte and alle, Fire and fleet and candle-lighte, Â Â Â Â (Refrain:)Â And Christe receive thy saule.
If ever thou gavest space to merge, thy wheels will turn from the verge
If never thou let driver in, the waters of Hell shall river in.
If ever thou turn'd thy blinker on, the lights sall guide thee ever on.
If never you signaled for thy turn, in the maze of hell you'll ever burn.
This ae nighte, this ae nighte, Â Â Â Â (Refrain:) âEvery nighte and alle, Fire and fleet and candle-lighte, Â Â Â Â (Refrain:)Â And Christe receive thy saule.

@elodieunderglass A little thing with legs!
things in fic I'm used to people kind of faking their way through writing about:
the city of los angeles
the city of new york
sex
how drinking alcohol works
how getting high works
how a child of any age speaks
how nuclear physics work
how [my job] works
how debilitating being shot in the shoulder is
how hypothermia works
things I have never before seen someone fake their way through writing about, until today:
what french toast is
read through the notes on this one trust me
Here's some of the notes, starting with the things multiple people brought up:
SHRIMP COCKTAIL:
banahbanah: #flashback to that one fic where Peter Parker frets about drinking shrimp cocktail because of the alcohol
generaldeliciousness: adding: what a prawn/shrimp cocktail is
#why is your character turning it down because they're under 21 #do you think prawn cocktail is a cocktail #this lives in my brain rent-free constantly #the rest of the fic was so normal #and good enough that i'll still re-read it #but bro
And then many, MANY, people wondering if this was actually authour mistake, since Peter really would do this!
POMEGRANATES:
zhajhassa: #haha where's that post that was like someone describing someone eating a pomegranate but they ate it like an apple
thornhands: #once someone wrote persephone biting into a whole Pomegranate #had to stop and stare at a wall for a minute
sungsingsanguine: I once saw someone very confidently write about a character eating slices of pomegranate.
FRUIT TREES:
zagreuses-toast: #given a very endearing glimpse into a writers blindspots by seeing them describe someone sitting under a ''pineapple tree''
salatrash: I remember something about picking watermelons... OF A FUCKING TREE
baander: #cranberry trees
DOUGH/BATTER:
maycelium: #I'm a chef so I'm really used to people not accurately describing how to cook food #But I was surprisingly flabbergasted when someone was writing making a cake and was kneading it. Which uh #Not necessary for cake. It was interesting for sure but just bizarre
livebloggingmydescentintomadness: #the one that drove me nuts was when a character set aside a batch of PASTA DOUGH 'to rise' #pasta doesn't have yeast!! #it does need to REST but it will never RISE #you do not want an airy crumb on your noodles
lovesodeepandwideandwell: #THE ONE WHERE THEY MADE COOKIES BY LADLING BATTER INTO A TRAY
Some other topics:
these are great
i don't read a lot of fic anymore but i'm forever thinking about stephen king's 'it' where the characters went into a chinese restaurant and were greeted by a waitress wearing a kimono
Still thinking about one where they had a Jewish character go to a London bakery to get some freshly-baked matzah like his mom used to make (it was not even during Passover). Not sure if they had confused it with challah or what, but I was genuinely delighted by the image.
There was recently a copyright infringement case in YA and I need everyone to know that the following sentence was in the legal decision:
âHot, sexy, dangerous boys, central to virtually all young adult romance novels, cannot be copyrighted.â
âRegarding setting, the court held that both works taking place in Alaska high schools was not protectable because Alaska is a public place and setting a teen novel in a high school is a common genre convention.â
Freeman v. Deebs-Elkenaney | Loeb & Loeb LLP
I've read the entire decision (skimming over the purely legal precedent/definitions bit) and here are some of my favorite bits:
some hyper famous artists like Van Gogh transcend overratedness and become underrated because they're so normalized. Like I'll look at a van Gogh and I'm like wait this really is amazing you guys don't get it
Shakespeare is like this
Every time I see a Van Gogh thatâs not one of his better known pieces it absolutely blows me away
Have you seen this shit my liege? smh unreal
My illustrations the most based poem about tigers by Nael, age 6
Every time I read it I feel space inside my chest expand in very *emotion* way.

I still think itâs funny how the Exagoge a Hellenistic Jewish play about the Exodus story written in the Ptolemaic period had to include a line where God tells Moses âit is impossible for a mortal to see my face, but it is possible to hear my wordsâbc Greek attendees wouldâve been really confused about getting to the exciting scene where a god appears and wouldâve been expecting Yahwehâs actor to be lowered from the ceiling astride a chariot and wouldâve been scratching their head wondering if there was technical issues with the crane or something bc like whereâs the god i was expecting a cool exciting entrance of a god they clearly got the burning bush effect to work like maybe that did happen during the opening run and they had to quickly insert that line
Can we support him please?!
I would love to share this with everyone who may happen to see this post. Please support this wonderful human being. He spent nearly a half century in prison for a crime he never committed. And the only thing that kept him going was his artistic endeavors. He deserves the best life can offer anyone â¤ď¸

âThe old magic persists thanks to itâs unfathomable power.â
No, the old magic persists because the new magic canât run the legacy spells I need to do my job, and keeps trying to install spirits I donât want or need onto my orb.
Look, if the new magic didn't have a personality construct that kept trying to tell me which spells to use, maybe I wouldn't still be using the old magic.
Yes it had a deep blood cost, but at least it was a one time sacrifice and not this monthly bloodletting nonsense new age magic has
The old magic is robust enough to survive a decade of use and it's compatible with every wand, staff, scroll, and charm in our collection.
The new magic stops working after three days and every spell uses proprietary runes.
Our preferences, as an archiving institution, should be pretty clear.
You try to get guidance for the new magic and the king's sorcerers maybe will answer you in a few days with an unhelpful suggestion to buy the newest orb.
You need guidance for the old magic and a dozen retired middle-aged wizards will pop up to explain it to you rune by rune if necessary.

âI thought this was about the legit ass bible and was so damn confusedâ
Hey teaboot guess where the word canon as used in fandom spaces comes from
THAT IS WHY I WAS CONFUSED
âI hate the word of god if itâs not in the book itâs not canonâ = the most bizarre prophet earth could conceive
Thereâs a Talmudic story about exactly this!
Consider this a sequel to this morningâs post talking about that SOS from that woman.
To kidnap people, starve them, beat them, torture them and even rape the whole taking their personal belongings? HOW does someone NOT being here âlegallyâ justify that EVIL treatment?? Because guess what fuck sticks? NO ONE but Native Americans are here legally.
But thankfully a group called Haven Watch is formed to help these victims. You can donate if you can but if you canât just spread the word!
No One Walks Alone
My mom and her teacher friends have a similar group here in New York and me and my friends have a similar kind of group going on.
Because this is NOT about differing opinions BUT of whatâs morally right and I donât want to look in the mirror 20 years from now regretting not what j could have done.
