Shopfront Youth Legal Service: Shopfront isn’t a service which is specifically aimed at Aboriginal young people, but they provide legal aid to young homeless people under the age of 25. The help they provide is essential.

A quick summary of most of the points:

Trump refers to people on Manus and Naru as “imprisoned”, repeatedly, even saying “you should let them out of prison.” He clearly doesn’t understand that they’re refugees not potential terrorists held indefinitely

Trump says in reference to the resettlement deal under the Obama deal “...somebody told me yesterday that close to 2,000 people are coming who are really probably troublesome...” 

Trump complains that the US is a “dumping ground”

He then says he fears these refugees will be terrorists because of 9/11

Turnbull responds by saying that Trump doesn’t actually need to take any of them just agree to examine/vet up to 2000 of them and then decide not to let them in. He also admits that he’s already vetted them and “we know exactly everything about them.”

Turnbull says they’re just economic refugees and that not even a Nobel Prize-winning genius would be allowed in by boat

Trump quote: “That is a good idea. We should do that too. You are worse than I am.”

Trump complains about even making an effort to honour these deal where Turnbull stresses - he doesn’t even need to take a single refugee in he can just make an appearance of vetting them before rejecting them

Trump brags about his electoral college win in response to Turnbull trying to press him on honouring the deal because of course he does he’s an egotistical asshole who wants to look big in response to telling him to do something he doesn’t like

Trump complains taking refugees makes him “look like a dope” (twice) and says he doesn’t like it at all

Trump: “I say that it was a stupid deal like all the other deals that this country signed. You have to see what I am doing. I am unlocking deals that were made by people, these people were incompetent. I am not going to say that it fits within the realm of my executive order. We are going to allow 2,000 prisoners to come into our country and it is within the realm of my executive order? If that is the case my executive order does not mean anything Malcolm. I look like a dope.”

Trump then suggests just vetting them and not taking them in. Turnbull points out that’s exactly what he’s said multiple times.

Trump demonstrates he hasn’t listened at all by repeating he worries they’re terrorists and asks if anyone knows anything about them and Turnbull points out he knows they’re fine, they know everything about them

Trump: “What is the thing with boats? Why do you discriminate against boats?”

Turnbull explains it’s to stop people smugglers. Leaves out how torture is somehow necessary for this in his mind. 

Turnbull uses the common ground of them both being businessmen to try and encourage Trump to honour the deal. 

Trump doesn’t want to look like a weak leader and complains about the deal (repeatedly)

Trump (for the second time) points out that Putin was a pleasant call and that this call isn’t. He’s clearly very frustrated and doesn’t like any aspect of this deal (nor does he seem to understand how it works either)

Turnbull seems to have given up and asks if Trump wants to discuss Syria or North Korea at which point Trump has had enough and after a quick goodbye the call ends.

Kenneth Zucker Blair White Walt Heyer Paul McHugh R. Blanchard

1. Zucker isn’t just against early social transition, he promotes subjecting children to intensive conversion therapy, taking away any toys and clothes that fit their identity, forcing children to stop seeing play mates of the gender they identify with, punishin children who persist in behavior that fits their gender identity, telling them again and again that they’re not who they feel they are. This is all highy traumatic. Zucker subjected one young trans girl to 105 “masculinizing sessions” to try to force her to start acting like a man. 

2. The study he did which resulted in the ‘70% of trans kids will not transition’ was absolute bullshit. Here’s an incomplete list of all it’s flaws: - The study grouped all ‘gender nonconforming children’ together without trying to seperate kids who expressed a strong conviction that they were transgender and/or a desire to transition from kids who simply enjoyed playing with dolls. Thus a lot of kids that where counted in the 70% never felt transgender to begin with. - The studies only measures whether the kids chose physical transition immediately at the point of reaching adulthood, and does not do follow up studies to see whether they identify as cisgender their whole lives. - The study ignores the fact that a significant number of the children in the study were exposed to abusive conversation therapy in Kenneth Zucker’s clinic. Which, ya know, is incredibly traumatizing and drives kids back in the closet. - The studies had lost touch with a lot of the people they had studied as children and they marked all non-respondents in the study as ‘not transgender’. Yes, you read that right: if a transgender child that had suffered  conversation therapy did not want to transition in the same clinic or talk to that doctor in adulthood, that child was marked as a ‘desister’. Really. - The studies only counted as transgender those who responded to the study AND sought physical transition at the point of reaching adulthood. Thereby excluding a lot of transgender experiences from people who do not physically transition or who transition later in life.

This doesn’t sound like much, but not only did it basically prevent me from having an emotionally or psychologically supportive childhood, it did not convert me, and it denied me a puberty experience that wouldn’t be traumatic, and instead has left me at 29 years old with persistent suicidal ideation from dysphoria and oh yeah, a bunch of mental health problems.

I might have a bunch of genetically rooted issues (OCD came right from my dad, so did ADHD) but personality disorders don’t just happen.

“Intersex advocates are rejoicing at a paper released by three former US Surgeons General. The surgeon-generals called for an end to forced medical surgeries on young intersex people.

Dr Joycelyn Elders, Dr David Satcher and Dr Richard Carmona were the 15th to 17th Surgeons General respectively.

The three condemned genitoplasty and other procedures, which are often performed on infants with intersex traits.

Intersex advocates, human rights groups and even the World Health Organization recognize ‘corrective surgery’ can cause more harm than good.

The paper comes as a new study revealed people who did not have forced surgery grew up without predicted problems.

The French study found ‘so far no major concerns have been reported from patients and their families’ and ‘with appropriate medical care and psychological support, it is possible to defer genital surgery’.

“We intend on standing at the airport with our airport themed images as part of our consumer protection initiative,” they say. “We will show their ‘consumer client’ what they would never dare to – abortion reality.”

The ICBR’s plan is to show images of aborted foetuses on placards.

“The more days we can organise volunteers to stand there, the more women will see these images and the fewer will undergo abortion,” they say.

“We will liaise with local crisis pregnancy centres and direct women who approach us to them for further counselling and support. But many no doubt will simply do a U-turn at the airport or never arrive for their abortion appointment having decided on life-affirming options for their babies.”

The ICBR are planning on holding the protests in the centre of Cork as well as Dublin and Cork airports.

Ruby Bridges was the first black child to desegregate the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana during the New Orleans school desegregation crisis in 1960.

This movie made me cry, I was so heart broken by how Ruby Bridges was treated! She was only 6, but was so strong. She is a very brave girl and she did not care what the white folks called her.

People are simply disgusting to minimize people by skin color!

Every morning, as Bridges walked to school, one woman would threaten to poison her; because of this, the U.S. Marshals dispatched by President Eisenhower, who were overseeing her safety, allowed Ruby to eat only the food that she brought from home.

Another woman at the school put a black baby doll in a wooden coffin and protested with it outside the school, a sight that Bridges Hall has said “scared me more than the nasty things people screamed at us.” At her mother’s suggestion, Bridges began to pray on the way to school, which she found provided protection from the comments yelled at her on the daily walks.”

U.S. Capitol Police forcibly removed demonstrators and disability advocates — some of whom were in wheelchairs — protesting the Senate’s proposed health care bill outside of Majority Leader Mitch McConnell’s office Thursday.

Capitol Police said they arrested 43 protesters for refusing to end the demonstration.

Organized by ADAPT, a disability rights organization, the protest targeted the bill’s significant cuts to Medicaid for low-income Americans.

“No cuts to Medicaid, save our liberties,” the protesters chanted. One protester who was in a wheelchair held a sign reading “life and liberty 4 disabled Americans.”
