i just think people should be able to navigate difficulties in their personal life without having the threat of homelessness or starvation or destitution hanging over their heads the whole time
Some other bangers;
"Jack of all trades, master of none" ... "but ofttimes better than a master of one."
"Blood is thicker than water." "The blood of the covenant is thicker than the waters of the womb."
"Money is the root of all evil." "The love of money is the root of all evil."
there's also "pull yourself up by the bootstraps" which conservatives are oh so fond of saying
bootstraps are, well, straps on your boots. you cannot physically pull yourself up by them, and that's what the original phrase meant. "pulling oneself up by the bootstraps" is meant to be an impossible task
"Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery that mediocrity can pay to greatness."
The second part really matters.
A few bad apples — a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch
this can go here on its own
Spoopy Season Safety
Oh my god reblog to save a me thank you
Reblogging even though it's way past Halloween bc this is an important reminder!
Stay away from anything with charcoal during this season if you are on ANY medication!!!
It should be best practices for any place selling this stuff to warn purchasers of this effect.
They won't do that, so reblogging to literally save a life.

Bisexual Panic! In the Greenwood
I got some interest on Bluesky for doing a series of videos on Welsh folklore, fables and folktales, so I thought as it’s Bi Visibility Month I’d start with an 18thC fable that Iolo Morgannwg recorded in his infamous manuscripts called Einion and the Lady of the Wood. I’ll do a video on who Iolo Morgannwg was another time, but you can Google him if you’re curious. Iolo claimed this tale was…

So this story is basically where a man is lured away from his wife by a fairy/goblin shapeshifter that looks like a beautiful woman, and he remains enchanted by her for many years. He does manage to escape, with the help of a man in white and his magic staff, and returns to his wife to find she's being wooed by a mystery wealthy nobleman, and they're due to marry as she thinks her husband is dead. It turns out the mystery noble is the same goblin/fairy in disguise. It just liked both of them I guess.
The man saves his wife with the **cough** man in white's magic staff *cough* (no, really, but it sounds so much like a euphemism) and they get back together.
I'm not saying there's a reason all the Fae in my books are queer but... Y'know...
The Evening World, New York, March 16, 1908
I relate
People writing adaptations of "a scandal in bohemia" love to make it less feminist than the original which was published in 1891
"What if they were in love" "what if she actually didn't outsmart him" what if you comprehended the entire point very plainly laid out in front of you which is that this story is That Time Holmes Got Less Sexist
Irene Adler is 1. Very explicitly stated to not be a love interest for Holmes on account of him not being attracted to women and 2. Smarter than him. She appears once and the story is only 44 pages long we get a very basic idea of who she is and that's About It. If you fuck up either of these traits that's not Adler anymore. If you want Holmes to have a wife that bad Watson's right there
[ID: a reply from @jewishevelinebaker that reads "'what if they were in love' She Has An Entire Husband" /end ID]
YEAH SHE GOT MARRIED LOL that was a pretty significant thing that happened
Thinking about this again actually. It's like so bonkers in yonkers to me how many people cannot fathom a male character admiring a woman's intellect without wanting to fuck her, or -- maybe worse! -- said woman wanting *him* because ....??? Why would she. She has no reason to. Introducing romance here in any way undermines the whole point of it and is frankly Weird! For a lot of reasons
Also, Irene Adler 3. is not working for anyone but herself. So many adaptations like to make her an agent or sidekick for Moriarty. She was not! She was just out there doing her own thing blackmailing monarchs for her own security and outsmarting Holmes all on her own and she didn’t need a male Napoleon of crime to give her marching orders!

Wow everyone is going through it. Hold my hand
reblog to hold the hand of the person you reblogged from
*Trying to look for quick and easy recipes on BBC Good Food especially soups*
*Every single recipe including unclear instructions, secret prep, incredibly long prep or completely alien language of cookery*
Me, a severely ADHD autistic with major cookery sensory issues, dyscalculia, and rapidly worsening intrusive thoughts about poisoning myself or others accidentally:
If you are in this fix and would like advice (if you don't, by all means, ignore me and do you!): Potato onion soup. 4 potatoes, 4 onions/leeks, 4 cloves garlic optional (but you want it if you're dairy free). Chop. Put in big pot with a lil oil in the bottom, turn heat on medium & stir it around until you can kinda smell onions & garlic. Add packaged stock to cover- veggie stock, chicken stock, or, in a pinch, water. Add salt, add pepper. How much? Pour into the well of your a cupped palm until it's a heap about the size of your thumb, that's probably enough. If you want other herbs (thyme, rosemary), about half that much. Bring to boil- big bubbles, like pasta water. Turn down to medium-ish heat- you want to see little bubbles, for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat. If you are fancy and/or do not like chunks, you can run this through a blender (carefully!) or use an immersion blended to make it smooth. If you are dairy free, you can eat this as is. If you are not, add about a cup of cream, stir. Eat what you want. Let the rest cool, put into single serve containers/quart ziplock baggies, freeze, microwave soup!
Tomato soup. 4 tomatoes. Core, chop. Put in a big pot with a lil oil in the bottom, turn heat on medium until things kinda break down but before anything turns black. Add tomato juice to cover. Add salt, add pepper. 4-8 sprigs of basil, but this is optional, you can also add garlic at the beginning as the above. From here, follow the same instructions as for the potato.
Taste it as you go. If you think, "this should be more salty," do that. If you think, "I want to put in carrots/corn/peas/cooked rice/cooked bacon bits," go for it. If you think, "Cabbage! Lentils!" resist those urges and consult a cookbook.
Make too much soup? Divide all numbers by two. Want WAY more soup? Multiply by two.
I MADE POTATO SOUP
The potatoes were too big, I knew this. I still did that.
I panicked with the stock cubes so it’s mostly water. But that’s fine.
It’s Good Soup (tm).
Thank you, thank you, thankyouthankyouthankyou!!!!
fellow autistics which is a worse sensory nightmare for you?
being cold
being hot
both are equally bad
neither bother me that much
When it's too hot to wear a hoodie but the air feels a bit cool against my skin while I'm sitting to work
Brain and body don't know what to do
Don't like
I did it out of love. You don’t owe me anything.
Ncuti Gatwa you have my undying love
I find it so dumb when people's entire argument is something like: "But they're only hiring that actor because they need to. Nowadays they have to have a gay person, or a black one, in everything. It's forced inclusivity"... Cause like... so? yeah I think it's good actually that people feel the need to be inclusive, that's a good thing!
Tick fucking boxes!
