I was surprised that I’d never heard of it though. It’s older than knitting and crocheting and even though it’s been done all over the world it’s super relevant to Nordic culture and my grandmother and I are both into keeping in touch with our roots a bit so I’m surprised I’ve never heard of it.

It’s also a lot easier to freehand and adjust as you go than crochet or knitting and you mostly go by inches instead of rows and number of stitches so a large number of accessories like stitch markers or whatever isn’t really necessary.

The downside as a beginner is that undoing mistakes is more time consuming than with knitting or crochet. You’ve gotta like sew your mistakes out backwards. Disadvantages of making a really sturdy fabric I guess.

I like the feel of this bone needle though and don’t think I’ll be trying the wooden or metal ones.

Also I think I’m gonna have to get good at doing Russian joining if I decide to get good at nalbinding because I don’t have wool yarn and the ends won’t felt together if it’s not at least 50% wool. A small price to pay for using big bone needle though.

But then Jason was (mostly) well behaved so it didn’t feel necessary and then Tim wasn’t technically his kid at first so it would’ve been weird, so by the time any of the post-Tim batkids roll around, Bruce has forgotten about the concept of microchipping his children (and he absolutely does not remember that Dick is chipped)

The problem is that everyone thinks the batkids are microchipped because Bruce always knows exactly where they are (Barbara tracks their devices) and it’s not like Bruce is gonna tell people that his kids aren’t chipped and expose a potential security flaw

So basically all the batkids think they’re microchipped but Dick is the only one who is actually microchipped

I see this coming to a head with one of the kids having to go through regular airport security or something and asking if the microchip will set off the metal detector, and then Bruce will say “none of you are actually microchipped” at the same time that Dick will say “yes, but just tell them you have a pacemaker”

my cat Nepenthe was a former stray behavior case at risk of euthanasia because she kept mauling potential adopters. on her second week in my apartment--having already attacked me multiple times without provocation, I will add, I wasn't special, she needed genuine help--she slinked out of the bedroom yowling at me. when I went to check on her she kept walking back and forth until I followed her, where she insistently paced between my feet and her hidey-hole in the back of my dresser, increasingly distressed. about three seconds after she gave up and hid, an absolutely torrential rain front hit. she didn't understand yet that we couldn't get wet inside. she'd been trying to warn me.

she didn't know me yet, but she knew I hadn't yelled at her when she hurt me. she knew I hadn't tried to hurt her back. she didn't understand why she was attacking me; those episodes probably scared her more than me. she knew I "shared" food with her, and that I asked before touching her. and she went out of her way to bring me into her safe space, to protect her friend.

He had the awkward tenderness of someone who has never been loved and is forced to improvise.

it started because shane was just annoyed that ilya wouldn't talk to him one day and blurted out "i'm going to tell galina you're not talking to me!" in a frustration/desperation play, and it was just. such a left field threat that it made ilya laugh and actually broke the tension.

and it just evolves from there until galina's name is invoked like a private deity.

laundry's not folded? "i'm texting galina"

last of the protein powder is gone but the empty container was left in the pantry? "oh, galina's gonna kick your ASS for this one, motherfucker"

if shane gets a therapist too it'll evolve to "my therapist is gonna call your therapist" and "my therapist could kick your therapist's ass"

and it's the little jokes most of the time but then sometimes they use it to have a lighter way of calling attention to something they're worried about. "gonna tell galina you're not going out again" "okay, you do that after you tell evelyn you haven't eaten any sugar since you didn't score for the last two games"

2020:

Like. Shane watching that video of Ilya over and over and over again, until when he won the Cup he knew exactly where to place his own lips. Ilya watching Shane win the Cup and immediately noticing, but playing it off as a coincidence until the following year when Shane kisses that exact same spot again. They never bring it up to each other but secretly, privately, they covet those kisses— tangible proof seen by millions, but the true meaning only being known to them.

when the writers and producers and actors all tell you point blank that the show is about empathy, and finding it wherever you can for all people, and you're there wishing death on mentally ill people? yeah, they're talking to YOU. YOU are the one who has fundamentally misunderstood the show. YOU are the one that they're trying to spoon feed that empathy to, but you're just keeping your mouth closed.
