IN THE AFTERMATH OF THE END OF THE WORLD…
Nothing remains but dust. Maybe it’s fitting. You’ve heard the saying, once or twice, from a loved one or a friend — for you are dust, and to dust you shall return — and in a way, they were right. When the apocalypse comes there’s plenty of warning, but nowhere to hide.
In the year 2049 the wind picks up, and so do the ever-encroaching storms. With winds whipping by at speeds intense enough to pick up ocean water and carry it miles away, humanity is forced to watch as the seas rise and land is swallowed up by dirt, gravel, sand, water. Anything not solid enough to keep itself in place is wiped away. Compounds and other defenses are built only to crumble under increasing stress. People flee their cities and towns in waves to avoid the towering skyscrapers that are liable to drop at any second. Those who have the wealth for it flee the planet in hopes of better pastures, or hide themselves underground in their bunkers. They’re the lucky ones.
Those who are less fortunate have no choice but to put their heads down and hope that the Dust does not bury them.
Humanity’s eventual recuperation begins with THE FAITH. As mankind digs itself out of mountains of dirt and gravel, a leader arises in the shape of THE MARTYR. With the wind slowing and dust storms becoming rarer and rarer, it’s easy to hear him when he tells strangers to keep the faith. A semblance of unity began to grow under his watchful eye, and from that unity comes growth and order. His disciples spread his word, and it is not long before what remains of the East Coast is swallowed up by the Faith, their doctrine, and their hopes. They see people fed. They see towns built, roads cleared. They have plans for the future. They see the Dust that blankets everything and seek out what remains below.
It is beautiful. And it is too good to be true.
THE YEAR IS 2349. The efficient but cruel-hearted Atticus Alexander Hastings II intends to build a railway from the Atlantic to the Pacific, and it doesn’t matter what he has to destroy to get there. Funded by the corrupt officials of The Faith, Atticus is as rich as he is mean, and for those populating this newfound Wild West, that makes him a prime target.
Our story begins with THE JACK ODYSSEY GANG, fresh off a win and on the run… but looking to gamble to escape that astronomical bounty on their heads. Outlaws and killers in kind, they’ll do whatever it takes to survive, as long as it means they’ll get to die wealthy.
— This is not about the end. It’s about what comes after.
