lot of my issues with episode 8 of The Amazing digital circus are things that have been simmering for a while that ended up just becoming glaringly clear in episode 8. One of my bigger pet peeves with the show was the lack of plot, in the pilot they put it as if this will be a mystery horror type of show and even have that energy throughout episode 2; in episode 3 they almost fully switched up the plot and ignored the whole mystery plot for a mental health based plot, which, while they could have co-existed the creator didn’t do that.
We didn’t see the mystery plot again until episode 7, which is my least favorite episode. They acted as if they would bring back the plot and ended up making a rushed fake out, which could have been interesting if they didn’t get rid of the plot in episodes 3-6 and if the idea itself lasted more than just one episode. It ended up becoming super rushed and ignoring a lot of nuance and drama within the characters to be done. I believe it’s almost made worse by how rushed episode 8 is. Instead of giving us this information throughout the show in clever ways, they just tell us it all at once. Along with being a pretty bland and rushed idea to put all the information in one episode, it also heavily broke the idea of show-don’t-tell, which, for a show trying to take on a horror idea, is kinda needed.
I do believe episode 8 is my favorite so far but that’s not saying much with how bad the rest of the series is. It had the most plot, even if it is just the base plot that should have and could have been done throughout the series. I am quite disappointed in how the show turned out as it seemed so good when the pilot came out, but, it just shows how such a good and interesting idea could get ruined by a bad writer. I don’t think gooseworks is thr worst writer ever or anything but I think this could have been a lot better if gooseworks was either better at taking criticism or better at writing.
