Charles’ only real argument against Erik killing his tormentor was that it wouldn’t give him peace.

Erik’s peace of mind was the big sticking point.

But Charles literally begging Erik to stop, to please, please stop…

He just didn't want Erik to be the one to kill him.

Because Erik's rage wouldn't end with shaw, it'd just move on to a different target. Erik would never escape his lust for blood.

He wanted what was best for Erik's troubled mind.

In another universe, Charles would have seen what was about to happen and made a decision...

Charles is damn near his breaking point for a total meltdown and KNOWS that will have casualties so he kept a mutant dampener collar for just this occasion for himself. But one of the x-men happened to come across it first and demands Charlie to explain "why the HELL is this thing here?!" And before he can even explain himself he's thrown so many accusations it makes him finally snap and send a strong psychic blast to everyone in the mansion, knocking them out into mini comas.

And Charles, thinking he's accidentally killed his x-men, in such a frantic state to even bother to check. Slaps the collar on himself and just breaks down.

And when his dear old friend comes to visit to see why their usual chess talk was postponed for no reason, erik finds the chaos that is a bunch of passed out people. A few slowly start to stir awake to wonder what even happened. And erik marches right towards Charles to see if he's ok, and who or what could possibly have done all this.
