A petition for blocking C-22 has been found
C-22 would basically allow the government to force companies to keep a year of your metadata, without any cause or reason
âand grants the Minister of Public Safety power to impose these same requirements on any electronic service provider by ministerial order.
Such metadata can reveal highly sensitive information including patterns of movement, association, medical activity, religious participation, and political activity;â
âThe definition of electronic service provider is broad enough to include any online service, including encrypted messaging apps, VPNs, email providers, banking apps, and cloud storage services;
Bill C-22 grants the Minister of Public Safety broad authority to compel any electronic service provider to implement interception capabilities or technical assistance measures that could weaken encrypted systems, with compliance being mandatory.
This creates cybersecurity vulnerabilities exploitable by criminals and hostile foreign actors, as demonstrated by the 2024 Salt Typhoon attack on United States telecoms;â
âThe government retains broad regulatory power to redefine key terms including "encryption" and "systemic vulnerability" without returning to Parliament, rendering the bill's stated privacy protections unreliable.â

Hereâs the thing: imagine if we fixed the housing market, so that the price of housing only increased to match inflation. That would be great, right? Except, homeowners typically spend $2000-$10000 per year on maintenance. So homeownership would go from an investment to an endless money pit, just like renting. The idea of a house as an investment, a house as a way to build wealth, requires that housing prices increase faster than inflation forever, which means that the burden of housing costs on working people must keep increasing forever, and the number of homeless people must keep increasing forever.
The housing crisis isnât just a result of greedy landlords and investors. Itâs an inevitable result of social policies that encourage people to treat their houses as in investment. Because once a homeowner internalizes the idea that their financial future depends on housing prices going up, they start favoring policies (such as NIMBYism) that make housing prices go up.
Conversely, if we want to end homelessness for good, we need to accept that housing is someone weâll all have to continuously pour resources into, because buildings are complex physical objects that break a lot.
The reason I say this is because every time I read an article about the housing crisis, they always say something along the lines of âThe housing crisis has robbed people of the opportunity to build wealth via homeownership!â without acknowledging that the housing crisis is what created the opportunity to build wealth via homeownership
What gets me is that âthis is not an asset, it will not increase in value, do not expect it to or base any plans on that happeningâ is what we already say to people who are buying cars (or bikes or other personal transport). We already have a model for âowning something that has ongoing costs and doesnât increase in value, but itâs worth it for its usesâ. Thereâs no reason we canât view housing like that as well.

The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or donât pass too well.

Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.
Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.

The thing they don't tell you about dealing with ADHD is that sometimes when you really, really don't want to do something you absolutely need to do your brain will suddenly lift the barriers stopping you from cleaning or doing other chores you've been struggling to finish, and so you have to run around stopping yourself from doing all the dishes or laundry or deep cleaning the bathroom, which feels awful because you've needed to do all that for a while and you couldn't, and yeah you can come back to it after you do your thing you don't wanna do but then you'll be back in "I can't do this" mode because you don't have another task to avoid, so you just have to accept it and it sucks.
