from 😾 to 🙂: an ilya rozanov guide to keeping your shane happy
after dick no kisses
after kisses no dick
The Long Game can only be described as a happy ending if you believe that it’s perfectly ok for a person to suffer profound professional humiliations and the loss of their lifelong dream as long as they get a man.
Throughout the book, Ilya is seen to have made a tremendous sacrifice for moving to Ottawa. He’s still a huge star, he’s captain, he’s playing in the NHL and he’s paid what he’s worth. Not winning for 2 seasons is considered a huge loss to him, one that he has a lot of difficulty dealing with, and everyone understands why he’s struggling to cope with that. He sees the loss as basically choosing Shane over hockey. Shane breaks down and berates himself over it.
Shane suffers much more after tripgate and the horror is that people are HAPPY. And he himself is expected to get over the sense of loss quickly. There’s very little empathy shown towards him or outrage on his behalf. There’s no reflection on the grave injustice he’s suffered. He’s no longer paid what he’s worth, something he cares about, and all he gets is a joke about having a rich husband. Nobody is talking about how it’s not right for a player of his caliber to be paid so little. He’s lost the captaincy, and all he gets is a joke about moving to the back of the line. It’s fine if there’s a merit based discussion on the captaincy of the Centaurs in any capacity, but there isn’t. Ilya became captain of the Centaurs right away, displacing the guy who held the position before him because he was the bigger star then did a pretty mediocre job for over two years. Shane Hollander, a man who captained his team to THREE cups, isn’t even worth a discussion. His reputation is destroyed, and nobody rises to defend him. Ilya seemed more annoyed that people are implying he needs Shane throwing games for him to win rather than being outraged at the attack on Shane’s integrity. The Centaurs, supposedly the bastion of wokeness, act like they’re doing Shane a huge favor for taking him in when he’s “damaged goods” and they’re HAPPY. YOU the reader feel like it’s unjust for Shane to suffer this profound loss, but the characters in The Long Game, including “the good guys” certainly show no indication that they feel this way.
Throughout the series, this type of professional loss ONLY happens to Shane (making this seem like a Voyageurs and Crowell problem rather than more pervasive oppression). Everyone other active player who came out is just fine. For those who came out after retirement, there’s no indication of negative impacts on their legacy. In fact, part of what motivated Ilya to want to come out is seeing the other out players and how great things were for them afterwards. Organizations that are supposedly queer friendly don’t seem to face any significant pressure or sabotage from the supposedly homophobic powers that be. The Irina Foundation, a new organization that promotes diversity and employs queer coaches, faces no challenges whatsoever. Where is this oppressively homophobic league people are picturing in their minds in the actual series? YOU the reader understand the professional hockey hockey world to be homophobic and oppressive enough for queer athletes to be closeted, but Rachel Reid failed to build her world that way.
But hey, it’s all OK as long as Shane gets to be with Ilya, right?
Okay maybe today wasn’t that terrible

many of you just. genuinely don’t believe that people can grow and change.
this is about the death penalty and its also about call out posts about people who have already apologized for things they did a long time ago and it’s also about using ‘toxic’ or ‘abuser’ as if its an immutable class of person, and its also about any other circumstance with permanent consequences or wherein you assume someone is still the same person they were.
"Whimsy" is truly a wretched term. What maketh thee so carefree?
thy mother
Art thou for fucking real
I want a fic where the hr universe has its own gay hockey show called break the ice or something and it takes the internet by storm so suddenly games and practices are being infiltrated by social media managers trying to get the players to say if they’ve watched it or who on the team they’d cast in the show and fans of the show who are also hockey rpfers are talking about the main couple of the show being like ‘this is hollanov if u squint’ and Ilya is having the time of his life bc he thinks it’s the best show he’s ever seen in his entire life and Shane is having 1000 mini heart attacks every day bc he legitimately believes someone has figured out he and Ilya are dating and decided to make a tv show about it and of all the ways he thought he could end up getting outed this was never on the spreadsheet
the writers of break the ice reach out to rose about playing one of the character's beards for a few eps and when shane finds out he demands yuna hire a private investigator to see if he's being followed
the real plot twist is that the characters in the show lowkey look like hayden and cliff so this starts this big, long-running joke that hayden and marleau are in a secret relationship and hayden and cliff - who know the Truth(tm) - are like 'guys this is great we can take the heat off you two' and ilya doesn't care bc it means he can call hayden pike ugly to the press and be like 'um no my handsome, funny, smart friend is MUCH too good for hayden pike' meanwhile shane is lowkey and irrationally FURIOUS bc what the FUCK do you mean people are calling hayden and marley Cute when he and ilya are right fucking there?!?!?!?!?
yuna getting really lovely, thoughtful, sometimes extravagant mothers day and birthday gifts from ilya never really understanding why hes going through all this effort even if she does appreciate it and thinks hes so so sweet for it all, even after the boys tell her and david about ilyas mother and the irina foundation it doesnt fully click for a while. it only comes together on some random day, ilya has a game later that night and he’s had lunch with yuna and david planned for a while and he shows up with the good vodka david likes and this small package of candies that ilya hands to her very shyly for the first time probably in his life, definitely since shes known him, and he explains with shaking hands that they were his mama’s favorite, and it was her birthday today.
yuna feels her heart break a little bit when he tells her that she would have been younger than her, maybe too young for how old her children are considering he had an older brother, but he thought about his mama when he was happy in the hollander home, and wanted to share his mamas favorite candy with the woman who was mama to his favorite person in the world. like they got to meet, in a way. and yuna realizes very suddenly that he does the birthdays and mothers days for both her and irina because she is the closest thing he has to a mother, and she looks at him and realizes with it that he is in some ways still 12, finding his mother, and she has never met a little boy so tall and tired when she pulls him into a hug and doesnt let go till david suggests they get inside for lunch.

girl with ptsd voice: hey, so something really bad is gonna happen, right? you guys are picking up on that too, yeah? The other shoe is about to drop, I just know it.
i understand (on paper) why companies are anti-piracy but its funny when random individuals are also strongly anti-piracy. like how does it negatively affect your life if someone you know downloads a cracked torrent of sims 4. you dont work for EA. EA isnt gonna pay you for this. you lose nothing. its fine. chill out.
the idea that every summer will be as hot if not hotter than this for the rest of my life is unbearable i need to (remembers suicide jokes are bad for my mental health) murder an oil executive
i tried making a contrapuntal poem for hollanov, which can be read 3 ways: shane’s side alone, ilya’s side alone, or both sides together. inspired by the long game.
One thing everyone seems to forget in this fandom is Ilya said that Irina was funny too
I feel like everyone makes her out to be this perfect angel bathed in golden light who never said one bad thing about anyone and who wouldn’t hurt a fly
But the first thing Ilya said about his mum was that she was funny
Irina Rozanova was a funny gal, she cracked jokes, she was quick witted and let’s not forget she raised Ilya little shit supreme Rozanov
IRINA WAS FUNNY

I think it's actually essential to children's moral development to be exposed to short stories moderately beyond their reading level where a bunch of fucked up shit happens and then instead of offering a moral lesson or any sort of emotional or narrative resolution it just ends.
why must I be
when I simply want to be
