Honesty makes the best ART.

Words From the Wise:
“When I think of music, I think of it in totality-complete;from the lowest blues, to the highest symphony.“ -Donny Hathaway
"I go for the music that gives me goosebumps, music that touches my heart and soul.” - Quincy Jones
“I just do what I want to creatively. Music is fun. It opens minds to dream great dreams.” - Isaac Hayes
“Songwriting is a gift from God. I always try to write a song, I never want to just write a record." - Smokey Robinson
"The true beauty of music is that it connects people. It carries a message, and we, the musicians, are the messengers.” - Roy Ayers
“Music is what you feel. When I’m giving up material, I’m giving up honesty, heart, soul and pure love.” - Marvin Gaye
“My career has been about saying things the way people say them. Using melodies not that I can sing, but that the people can sing.” - Lionel Richie
“I really do seek to create music that is timeless. The most important thing is, when I give the music, I am satisfied with it, that it speaks for what I want to do.” - Stevie Wonder
Black Puerto Ricans never...
Get the respect and honor they deserve. It makes me really uncomfortable some of the best poets, artists and musicians were/ are black, or have black blood (because we know how many Puerto Ricans like to lessen the amount of blackness in themselves)
The only proud Black Boricuas are those hyper aware, and those who will never be able to deny it. Now I’m not saying that there aren’t any Non-Black Boricuas because obviously there are. I’m just saying, you shouldn’t give one paragraph explaining African slaves, while a whole page on indigenous Tainos.
You’d go on to find studies on the Taino and say 60 % have traces of Taino, yet no one would want to test how much black is in us. now THAT’S institutionalized Racism.
It’s to the point where I don’t even know how my Puerto Rican family identifies racially. They are not phenotypically Black, (not really dark skinned, some have straight hair, and one cousin is blond) but we ain’t white that’s for sure. Those beautiful big hips, ass, lips are black. Stop hiding it and love it.
Oh and another thing…
We wanna downplay afro Boricuas and yet hang on to bomba and plena as if that didnt come straight out of Africa.
ON MY WAY GO TIME SQUARE! MEET ME BY THE RED STEPS!!! #ImYours premiers in less then 15 mins on @applemusic #connect !!!

Ask yourself some good questions like; Am i proud of the life I’m living? What have I tried this month? Do the people I’m spending time with give me life, or make me feel small? Is there any brokenness in my life that’s keeping me from moving forward? GIVE today all the love and intensity and courage you can, and keep travelling honestly along life’s path. Don’t get stuck. Move, travel, take a class, take a risk. There is a season for wildness and a season for settledness. This is neither. This season is about BECOMING.

Blue is fuckin’ tight.
Well he’s got a point there.
“Why are making those blue, dude?” “‘Cause blue is fucking tight.” “Oh.”
Remember when Disney treated emotional trauma as an actual physical ailment and not the stupid “just stop being upset” thing?
Big Hero 6 was a great movie
How Nina Chanel Abney is Championing the Black Lives Matter Movement with a Paintbrush
in Vanity Fair
“I always said I wanted to be a famous painter. I just never knew what that really meant,” she says in her studio at the Gateway Project, a relatively new gallery and studio complex in Newark, New Jersey’s Gateway Center, where she is an artist in residence. Her works there will soon be transported to the Kravets Wehby Gallery in Chelsea for her fourth solo exhibition in the space, titled “Always a Winner,” opening October 15. Then, on October 18, she will once more display her work alongside the likes of Kara Walker, Nick Cave, Robert Colescott, Kehinde Wiley, and Jean-Michel Basquiat—to whom the artist is frequently compared—for the traveling exhibition’s ninth incarnation, at the Detroit Institute of Arts. “Art is no longer about revolution, it’s about evolution,” says Don Rubell on the phone from Miami. “Nina is well on her way to becoming a great artist. The level of development is astonishing. It’s a prophecy that speaks for itself.”

yes yes yes! ☺️
The Panthers used to ride around and follow the police.
So the cops would pull over some sorry black person, and get ready to rough him up, but then there were the Panthers right behind them. Watching, armed to the teeth, and citing legal statutes. It’s inspirational.
Bring it back.
Bring this back.
For real.
