I really think my tastes have shifted a lot without me noticing, though.
Mostly, a lot of things that seemed kind of deep to me look really juvenile and simplistic upon experiencing it again, and finally understanding that "oh right, children's and teenager's entertainment does have a certain degree of simplicity to it", even if the work is well written and/or impressive on a technical level, or even that some of the depth I saw was just me projecting my own interpretations into it, or those that I saw other people expressing.
And like, I'm not even saying that this simplicity is a bad thing or a sign of "bad writing", it's just that there are a bunch of things you don't really understand when you're under a certain age, because you just didn't live long enough yet to understand them.
And on one hand it makes me a bit bummed out that I don't enjoy certain things as much as I did before, but on the other hand I now am able to better enjoy other things I wasn't able to.
With each passing day I understand my dad more and more when he said that he didn't understand why, even if a videogame has a good story, why do you have to go through all the gun play and flashy stuff to get to it
