It's often said of shows made for audiences back in the day that they were far more willing to take risks than what is typically given to today's generation. And while I'm loathe to make generalisations like that, there are instances where I can see some truth in it. Case in point, Gargoyles, one of my favourite shows from when I was growing up and easily one of the most remarkable shows ever to come under the Disney umbrella. The show was always known for having a darker edge than what the House of Mouse would usually give us, but the real point in this post was the ending of its first episode, and the inciting incident that led to the main story. That being, of course, the massacre of the Gargoyles of Castle Wyvern. Let's not beat around the bush here people, this act was a genocide, plain and simple, and here it was, being shown in a cartoon for kids, made by Disney of all people. Ask most people if Disney today would greenlight something like that, and chances are pretty good you won't any who'd see them doing it ^^;
