The first clue the team got of what exactly they signed up for came when you first met Soap. The two of you locking eyes and mutually agreeing that's my new playmate so of course you go in for the traditional wolf greeting by full-on swapping spit and licking into each other's mouth much to everyone else's horror.

Then there's the scenting. Rubbing your face into Johnny's neck whenever the urge strikes you, and encouraging him to do the same. The others don't really have strong scents, so it's amazing to indulge in this instinct with each other...even if it does get you both a bit excited and leads to some heavy petting.

With curling horns that have definitely broken open some skulls, they become a signature of his. No one dares to treat him like the prey hybrid he is, less they suffer 'accidental' broken bones.

Then you come along. The mild mannered secretary who gaz is pretty sure used to be a farmer based solely on vibes.

Technically, gaz isn't wrong. You grew up around livestock and as a result developed some habits...which means you end up absently scratching prices horns when he leans over your shoulder.

You don't even realize you're doing it until price let's out a low, throaty huff and practically goes boneless. You startle and–

Price has essentially fallen to his knees in bliss, rubbing the base of his horns into your fingers with a groan. "Fuckin' hell...don't stop..."

Don't think about ghost remembering his own docking, how his Da accidentally stepped on his tail and refused to take him to the hospital. Simon suffered a broken tail for months until the infection nearly killed him.

Don't think about soap noticing ghost staring at his stump, how the little nub still wags when he gets excited.

"Lost is when I was seven." Soap would tell ghost with a smile, playfully bumping his shoulder with ghost. As if his docking wasn't something horrible. "I was a happy wee pup, whacked it on every sofa and corner I could."

Ghost stares at soap, completely silent as he takes it in. Soap continues unaware "O' course Mum didn't catch it in time, had to get docked. Now ah' match my sisters!"

And ghost...ghost doesn't have anything to say to that. He can hardly stand to think about his missing tail most days, memory full of nights spent silently crying in fear his Da would come and yell at him again. He lost his tail in agony.

Soap...soap lost his because he was happy. Because he was too happy and wagging his tail all the time.

Ghost forces out some excuse of losing his tail in a fight, refuses to talk any more about it. But late at night, he curls up in bed and tries to imagine what it would have been like to be so fucking happy he lost his tail.
