And Poppy, what you saw was an arthropod known as Pterygotus (it was actually featured in Walking With Monsters). Not only was it as big (or maybe even bigger) than your average human, it had a stinger the size of a lightbulb. REALLY glad that bugger isn’t around anymore.

It has not ever “been established” that Loki’s magic is “mostly illusion-based with shortcomings.”

Allow me to clarify.

Loki is, in fact, “the most powerful sorcerer on Asgard,” according to Kevin Feige.

This is a short list of what we know for sure, from the films, that Loki can do—we don’t know what else he is capable of. (I expect we will see other powers emerge in the new Loki series.)

Extrasensory perception

Illusion casting

Shape-shifting

Telekinesis

Telepathy

Teleportation

Energy blasts

Mind-reading

Astral projection

Ice powers (he’s a Frost Giant).

Or, just check out Marvel’s official bio for Loki. They give a nice list of Loki’s powers, but it doesn’t include everything we’ve actually seen in the films.

But that’s not all. Loki has superhuman strength speed, agility, durability, healing, and longevity, which Dr. Strange does not have.

Because of these powers, Loki has survived all of the following and more:

Being shot with automatic weapons.

Falling through space and wormholes (at least three times).

Getting blasted point-blank with a SHIELD super-weapon.

Being stabbed through the chest with a huge sword.

Being Hulk-smashed.

Any of the above attacks would kill a human instantly. Dr. Strange would need at least a few seconds to work a spell, or do that thing with his ring, or use the Eye of Whatever stone to survive any of those attacks. So, he’d die—unless his cloak-friend managed to act quickly enough to save him. (I don’t think having a magic cloak buddy should count as one of Dr. Strange’s powers. Unless we want to count Loki’s accessories as well—starting with the Tesseract?)

Now, I’m not taking anything away from Dr. Strange. He is the Sorcerer Supreme, and undoubtedly the strongest sorcerer on Earth. But Earth is not Asgard, where magic is an everyday thing. Which reminds me of a few more relevant points:

Loki is a genius, tactician, strategist and “always 10 steps ahead of everyone else.” He has studied combat and fought in countless wars. Dr. Strange is also a genius—but his learning is primarily in medical science.

Loki has lived for over 1,000 years and has studied magic since he was a child.

Loki can hold Infinity Stones in his bare hands without burning up. Humans can’t do that.

According to Thor, Loki knows secret paths between worlds that no one else knows about. Only Loki doesn’t need the Bifrost.

Loki has his own “dimensional pocket” where he can keep pretty much anything he wants apparently, including the Tesseract.

In the first Avengers movie, it took all of the OG Avengers (plus Fury, SHIELD, etc.) to stop Loki. As you may recall, there would be no Avengers if not for Loki.

Loki has held his own in extended battles with Thor 1:1 twice. In fact, overall, Loki is generally considered to be as powerful as, or more powerful than Thor.

Now consider this. How did Dr. Strange get his magic? (Aside from being given that ring thingy, the Eye of Whatever, and the Cloak-buddy, I mean.) He studied. He practiced. He read the spell books. He worked hard at it.

So did Loki. Just about 1,000 times longer than Strange.

One more thing: Dr. Strange is a human. Loki is a god.

Okay, now that we’ve cleared that up, I’ll just mention that I really don’t blame you for thinking Loki can only do illusions. Inexplicably, Loki didn’t use most of his powers in the last three films—not even to save his neck in IW. Thus, the filmmakers of Ragnarok and Infinity War severely underpowered him.

And THAT is precisely why “people cry bad writing” with regard to Dr. Strange supposedly overpowering Loki.

We will stop as soon as our God will get the writing he deserves and they will show the world him in his full power (not sure its ever gonna happen because if it did Loki would clearly be the most powerful MCU character and Marvel wont allow that, they want us to love only their precious heroes)

The word “man” was gender neutral and referred to both sexes until the 13th century

You remember TDW? When Thor let Loki to his solitary confinement and didn’t show up in his cell until he needed something from him?

You remember Loki showed up in Thor’s cell less than an hour after Thor was put in there?

It’s the FIRST TIME IN 4 MOVIES that they have the chance to actually TALK about things. They finally have something to bond (?) over: Odin has lied to both of them.

Hurts, doesn’t it? Being lied to. Being told you’re one thing and then learning it’s all a fiction.

I get that Thor might be in a state of shock, but Loki is reaching, and Loki is the only one who ever does that!! And he’s not lying or playing games. He’s right out telling Thor not to do something stupid, to have a back up plan, to actually think before he did something.

Of course, the hot headed oaf rather punch his way out of everything, as usual, and deflected all blame to the one person he had deflecting all blame through his whole damn life.

Thor did not come in TDW to visit for like a year,plus it was until he needed something.

Loki came to see Thor in prison few minutes after inprisonement.

Im sure the point of this scene and writing was to show what a jackass Loki is for standing above Thor and not freeing him, meanwhile, without realizing, they gave us another proof of how much more Loki loves Thor than the other way around. Because he never saw him as equal, meanwhile Loki keeps comparing himself to Thor.

Sadly, 99,9% of all who watch buy this hero narrative crap and they see Loki as bad guy here and considering that for many TR was the first MCU movie they ever saw,when watching this, they dont know about Loki’s previous inprisonment so,they see him as an ass here not the hero. Hero is always good.

And yes, Loki was always the one to reach out, even if he didn’t need something. Honestly, that two-way street bullshit stops working when it’s always ONE person reaching out. And when it’s one person against a narcissistic personality (and make no mistake, that is Thor now), what you do will never be good enough, they will never reach out, and eventually, you have to cut yourself off from it. It’s a huge energy leech.

Loki was always the one tempering Thor’s temper. Though even that was part survival mechanism - it wasn’t worthy suffering the aftermath, so he tempered it before it happened. It’s all damage-control with this Thor. Without Loki, Thor devolved completely into young, arrogant Odin. That is the path that he is now walking in Mavel - that of a tyrant in the making. Personally, I would say it’s poor character development, but it was specifically what they wanted.

It’s a shame too, as so many other versions have so much more character complexity, vastly superior character growth and personality, and actual good brother dynamics. It’s one of the hardest things to find, actors who actually play siblings well. But when you do, it’s an amazing draw and the audience will FOLLOW. They could’ve done it. The foundation was there to build.

But it can’t all fall on one sibling, ever. Which left the sibling who basically stopped playing the game, Loki, to grow stronger and better and more capable than Thor could ever dream. Loki proved he didn’t need Thor, and that burned Thor more than anything. Loki was supposed to always be Thor’s shadow. When he stopped being that, this Thor’s only response could be to try and destroy it.
