Yoooo all very pog stuff! I didn't notice the last detail (which is really cool) and thank you for the new artist to look into!
The silk puppeteering HC is really cool as well! Definitely incorporating that into my lore tidbits.
The main HC i have regarding the Cogwork machines is that said silk that's stored inside each machine (likely via spool) is also it's power source- since the Silkflies seem to be more of the guiding system controlling the constructs, not their battery. I'll elaborate on that in a sec.
So, silk contains soul. If you were to rupture silk or destroy it in some way, you release that soul- which is energy. Slow, controlled destruction of silk (likely via some sort of seam ripper mechanism?) equals steady energy, with leftover dregs beings stored internally for later recycling.
This also explains the Cogwork Dancers fight to me- why they keep seemingly 'Recharging'- it's to refill on silk. While we don't see other stations for the other machine types, they probably exist. If not, the Cogworkers may perform that duty and the Dancer's stations are for rapid redeployment.
And lastly, in reference to the Silkflies, i'm just gonna copy paste a bit from my lore section here, with the process in question being the one found within the secret Whiteward room:
"Silk may be bound alongside the souls of common bugs to create a basic silken creature known as a Silkfly.
These are used to guide and direct Cogwork machines, as those whose souls are consumed in this process retain their drive, their goal, their ambitions- all of which become the base of a machine's programming.
This is partly why the Citadel is setup the way it is. Pilgrims spend their life toiling away, devoted, serving, so their mind can only think of that simple thing. Such basic ambitions make for optimal worker constructs.
Additionally, for more advanced machines, either more Silkflies are needed, or a more diverse soul is required. The former, as seen in the Chorus, is done to more easily manage the larger shell they are trapped within, and to promote they stay devoted to their cause through herd mentality.
The latter, as seen in the Sentinels, is often the result of finely chosen or molded subjects, whether willing or not, to be trained extensively and indoctrinated further than most, all to deepen their abilities and senses, with the side effect of potential changes in directive or learned use of emotions."
