Life and Death

Well I was feeling pretty shitty and the convo is making me smile so I’m not complaining

So long as something good came of it.

"Daddy…" her voice was like a empty sheet of paper, lost in nothingness. Joanna felt like she was four years old again, waking up to both of her parents there, smiling down at her with sunshine pouring over them all. Why weren’t they smiling now?

"Why is Mama so concerned?" Jo whispered, offering a silent laugh that brought a stab to her side, and then her back. A spasm went through her feet in pain, but she just curled bloody fingers up into her stomach, and squinted even more towards her father. "Told her it was nothin’, but she’s cryin’."

It was then that she noticed how hard her father was breathing, and she furrowed her brows, finding tears welling in her eyes. The shock hit her like a slap to the face.

It was difficult to keep her composure once Leonard had showed up, as gently as she could handing her baby over to him. Shock was starting to set into her her rocking became more frequent as she just held herself. As if trying to mend broken pieces that seemed to be falling off of her. Everything started off just fine that day, how could this be happening no, it couldn’t be happening. 

                     ❝Save her Leonard, please save her. I can’t….I can’t lose her….❞

His face was like stone as he took Joanna, gently resting her on the ground once more. Of course he wanted to hold her, cradle her and kiss her head and tell her it'd be okay, but that wouldn't help her, make her better. Leo couldn't be a dad right now, he had to be a doctor. 

He looked up at Joc for a moment. His eyes met hers, and he spoke quietly, "I'm gonna save our baby, Jocelyn." 

Looking back to his daughter, he finally managed a very weak smile, his focus split between her and his kit which he was trying to open. Normally steady hands couldn't help but tremble, making things harder. 

"Hold on, baby girl. Keep your eyes open. Talk to mama, okay?" He glanced at Joc again. "Talk to her and keep her awake."
