and on that note, the whole Boiling Rock scene was wasted on Maiko. “i love Zuko more than i fear you” was a powerful line but GOD was it wasted on these two people who had absolutely no chemistry. like i don't believe for a second that either of them even like each other, let alone love each other to the point of sacrificing themselves.

it would have worked a lot better with a ship like Sokka x Suki because they had actual development and have been shown to care about each other deeply. that scene where Sokka pins Azula to the wall and demands to know where Suki is was a hundred times more impactful, because we've seen how their relationship has progressed and how they've both inspired each other to change for the better.

Zuko and Mai meanwhile got together randomly after YEARS of not seeing each other, form a relationship that consists of fighting and making up and fighting and making up again, their "affectionate" scenes are so uncomfortable to watch because of how little chemistry they have, and i'm supposed to believe that Mai loved Zuko so much that she was willing to put her life on the line for him? bullshit.

I think this is the person in my mentions so I’m going to take the time in a future post to rebut all the points here. Like wdym you want “I love Zuko more than I fear you” to apply to Suki and Sokka of all people, when the line is fundamentally about Mai overcoming her apathy and is compelled to stand against Azula, because of her love for Zuko?

Did we watch the same show? Is media literacy dead?
