10 Lies Your Character Believes About Themselves (And Theyâd Die Before Admitting It)
These aren't the fun, Disney Channel lies like âI'm just a regular girlâ while literally being a secret pop star. These are the ugly ones. The ones that get in your characterâs blood and start rewriting their whole life without them noticing.
» âIf people really knew me, they'd leave.â Not "might." Would. No question. So they smile bigger. They edit harder. They keep conversations surface-level. All while carrying this bone-deep certainty that love is conditional... and they are dangerously close to failing the test.
» âI have to earn every good thing.â Rest? Happiness? A day without guilt? They treat those things like prizes at the end of a brutal obstacle course. No one told them they could just have good things. No strings. No blood price. (So they keep bleeding anyway.)
» âI'm too much.â Too loud. Too intense. Too sensitive. Too complicated. They know it. They've been told. So now they pull themselves in, hold their breath, bite back everything real until they barely take up space at all. (And ironically, they still think theyâre being "too much.")
» âI'm not enough.â Neat little trick, right? Theyâre both "too much" and "not enough" at the same time. Magic. They're convinced everyone else got the secret manual for how to be lovable and they somehow missed it.
» âIf I'm strong enough, nothing can hurt me.â They call it resilience. Other people call it stubbornness. Reality calls it self-destruction. They've mistaken numbness for healing and independence for invulnerability. But hurt still gets in. It just hits harder when itâs been bottled up for years.
» âIâm responsible for everyone's happiness.â Caretaker. Peacemaker. Therapist friend. Emotional sponge. Theyâve appointed themselves as everyone's safety net, believing that if they donât hold everything together, everything will fall apart. (Newsflash: it's not their circus, and it never was.)
» âI don't need anyone.â Need is a dirty word. Itâs weak. Itâs dangerous. So they white-knuckle their way through life, collecting scars and pretending itâs freedom. But late at night? In the dark? Theyâd sell their soul for someone to just... stay.
» âI'm the villain in someone else's story and they might be right.â They know they've hurt people. Made bad calls. Left damage. And no matter how much good they do now, some part of them whispers, You donât get to come back from that.
» âMy best days are behind me.â Whether they peaked in high school, lost their shot at something important, or just carry a chronic ache of nostalgia, they believe itâs too late. That nothing good can be built from where they are now. (Which, ironically, makes them waste even more time.)
» âThis is as good as it gets.â They settle. For bad love. Boring jobs. Half-dead dreams. They tell themselves it's "realistic." "Mature." "Practical." But underneath? It's fear. It's heartbreak. It's the quiet belief that hope is something they canât afford anymore.

a writing competition i was going to participate in again this year has announced that they now allow AI generated content to be submitted
their reasoning being that "we couldn't ban it even if we wanted to, every writer already uses it anyway"
"Every writer"?
come on
Reblog if you're a writer who doesn't use AI.
altan: are you talking to yourself?
chaghan: how else am i supposed to have an intelligent conversation in this house
Commonly misused phrases!
idioms or sayings that people say more often than they write, so when they write it it's usually wrong.
Once in a while, not 'once and a while.'
Per se, not 'per say.'
For all intents and purposes, not 'for all intensive purposes'
Irregardless is not a word, actually, it's either 'regardless' or 'in regards'. ir- as a prefix means 'without' but so does the suffix 'less'. So if you write 'irregardless' you are writing 'without a lack of regard' which means 'in regards to.' double negative, yeah?
By and large, not 'by in large'.
I could care less vs I couldn't care less. First one means 'yeah I don't mind it, it's whatever.' second one (correct) means "I fucking hate that thing my opinions are in the basement of hell."
"much to be desired" correctly is "lacking in appearance/utility", not "beautiful." What it means is, "that thing is so bad, it does not satisfy my aesthetic/utilitarian needs for it and I desire something better." not, "I desire that thing so much because it's gorgeous."
"Leaving little to the imagination" means you can see/understand all of it. it does not mean 'modest', idk which one of you fucks started that but no. wrong. A sweater leaves a lot to the imagination because you can't see any of the person. Lingerie leaves 'little to the imagination' because you can see everything, you don't have to imagine it. in terms of understanding, 'little to the imagination' would be a very thorough explanation rather than a vague outline.
if you have any others you want me to include, lmk!

The Anatomy of Punching a Character in the Face
Punching scenes are a staple of action sequences in many genres. Whether itâs an intense brawl, a quick defense, or an emotional outburst, a punch can carry a lot of weight both physically and narratively. As a writer, itâs essential to understand what really happens when a fist meets a faceâfrom the immediate impact to the longer-lasting effects on both the person getting punched and the one throwing the punch.
This guide will help you craft authentic, detailed, and believable punch scenes by exploring different areas of the face, types of punches, and the aftermath of such an impact.

reblog if you believe fanfics are as valid as books that were published and sold by authors who write as their main careers. I'm trying to prove a point
If you see this on your dashboard, reblog this, NO MATTER WHAT and all your dreams and wishes will come true.
Oh hey! Havenât seen this in forever! Didnât reblog it when it came across me before, not gonna skip it this time, I need some good vibes.
Yerin Ha as Sophie Beckett
(or maybe Baek So-hye / Sophie Baek if they change her name like they did with Kate Sheffield to Kathani Sharma).
âShe was utterly radiant, and Benedict suddenly realized that it was because she looked so happy. Happy to be where she was, happy to be who she was.â
the way i screamed in triumph when i got the news yerin ha was cast đ
"was that its name?"
rewatching the acolyte (well, parts of it) and i am currently obsessed with reading into the dialogue with a slightly different perspective. like during jecki's death:
sol: jecki!
the stranger: was that its name?
sol: she was a child.
the stranger [shrugging]: you brought her here.
the first time i watched this scene, i totally thought qimir called jecki "it" at first just to be a dick. but it really speaks to the fact that qimir finds the jedi's values and philosophies to be inherently broken.
was jecki a soldier or a kid? pick one. was she a tool or a child? if she was the latter, why would you bring her here to hunt down a criminal that already killed two masters? obviously this is not a person who will hesitate to kill jedi.
you treated her it like a tool, and now you see the consequences of that unfold right before you; hence qimir makes a point of this. (also interesting to wonder how this could tie into his backstory with vernestra)
why would you bring a kid there? is it the enemy's fault when you choose to bring a child to the battlefield? is the enemy really responsible for her death, or you?
referring to jecki as "it" is, i think, a jab at the jedi for treating their padawan as tools, for choosing specific moments to humanize them or weaponize them (perhaps as his master did to him?) it's not because he didn't see her as a personâit's because he doesn't believe that the jedi truly did.
"the jedi live in a dream... an acolyte kills the dream."
but that's just my two cents.
to me, yerin ha being cast as sophie is yet another addition to the east asian cinderella archetype (kongjwi in kongjwi and patjwi, cinder in the lunar chronicles)
