Yeah, so, here it is. I've posted everything I have from Le Soldat Pony to the Internet Archive. This includes almost everything from her Bandcamp page and all the acoustic recordings from her brief return to Tumblr in 2020. Notably, I'm missing Theme for "White Box" and any collaborations with other artists that weren't released on her Bandcamp page.

Part of this project has also involved adding a bunch of missing releases to MusicBrainz, and I'd appreciate help with that if you know how to use it.

If you've got anything I'm missing, or you just have better quality rips than I've managed to scrounge up, please get in contact. I'd love for this to be a truly complete set. I'm interested in archived YouTube uploads, interviews, music, high res album art, the works. You can shoot me an email, or DM me here if you must.

this is the key part of the song, that a lot of people miss. people have this misconception that the contest between Johnny and The Devil is about who is the better fiddle player. but it isn't. its about who is the better fiddler.

in a time before things like radios and record players, every time you heard music was because there was somebody in the room with you playing an instrument. and many, many, many social events involved dancing, which requires music. so, if you're planning any kind of gathering in the american south or appalachia, you need to find a fiddler. and the fiddler's job is to play music that everybody knows and likes and can dance to.

the mistake The Devil makes in his bet with Johnny is that he misinterprets the contest as being about technical ability, so he has this big flashy song. he plays fast and impressively with a band of demons playing unfamiliar instruments in unfamiliar rhythms. he's definitely more skilled at playing than Johnny, and thinks he has it in the bag.

but Johnny wins because the contest is about being the best fiddler. the song uses these lines mentioned above as a shorthand for saying that Johnny is playing these songs. Johnny launches into a set of the most popular songs, played well, and that's what gives him his big win. A good fiddler knows all the hits, and can read the room to know what to play next. The Devil loses because he completely fails to read the room, and doesn't know the right songs.

i agree, but i don't think calling it cia bullshit is productive either. i can see how folks might arrive at the conclusions they do organically. it makes sense when you realize many of us have been reading decades of feminist theory (more often second hand) that discusses "gender" as a social category we get sorted into with or without our consent, while imagining that the author is discussing some immutable intrinsic property of the self.

you can't hope to understand rainforest ecology from studying a potted orchid; you can't look at a social problem through an individualist lens and expect to form a coherent model of oppression.

Celestia instantly makes more sense as a character when you ignore the princess stuff and remember that she's a 1000+ years old wizard.
