do you have any tips on getting better at sketching ?
'better' means a lot of things so we're going to improve your confidence and speed.
if we're talking traditional, use a pen, or some other tool that you can't just erase. try to use as few strokes as possible. if that curve came out weird, work with it or start again. it's a sketch, it don't matter. none of this matters.
the equivalent for digital is just try to get your hand away from ctrl z. maybe pick a brush you'd normally ink with, or pick a brush with no pressure sensitivity. and then try to draw something first go.
here's a homework assignment.
set a stopwatch. draw a goblin. head, body, feet, the whole thing. draw One goblin. once you feel like you're finished, stop the watch. how long did it take you to draw that goblin?
set a timer for half the amount of time you spent on that first goblin. if it took you 30 minutes, now you have 15. draw the goblin again. cut whatever corners you want, but it has to be as close to complete as you can get it. and it still has to be the full goblin.
really this is step 2a. now that you've run out of your 15 minutes, think about what part was the hardest. deciding a pose? getting the figure correct? a curve? this is going to take some introspection, and you may have to repeat this step before you feel ready to go on to the next one.
halve the timer again. if you had 15, now you have 7. do it again. now that you've thought about where your weak points are, focus on them. draw the entire goblin. do your best.
same thing now. where did you struggle? what's slowing you down? think about how you can do it faster. actively try to do it faster.
enjoy your 3 funny little goblin drawings you now have. repeat with whatever subject you want.
that's my advice

I don't usually share these link-through "memes" out of principle, but the Van Gogh shirt is killing me.
Serious explanation here: she's teaching them the instinct of being alert around enclosure openings! For example, if these were wild cats living in a bush, they'd run the risk of a larger predator running up to the opening and grabbing one of them. The mother cat is also only bapping them lightly without claws, so those slaps are more of an annoyance meant to get the kittens' attention, and to teach them to keep their eyes out for potential threats.
also slapping him is fummny

Ah, to have nostrils as clear as a twin ram jet.
Shedding light on how technology increasingly shapes everyday life, a study published Thursday by the American Journal Of Sociology revealed that the average American dedicates 97% of their day to retrieving six-digit validation codes. “Our findings suggest that U.S. residents spend roughly 23 hours each day—or 160 hours every week—attempting to log in to online services, being told they need to check their phone for a six-digit code, and then entering that code into the website or app for verification,” said lead researcher Andrew Singh, adding that many Americans have to skip meals and forgo showering in order to find time to read and transfer over the hundreds of codes needed daily to access their medical records, work emails, and food delivery accounts.

Is this a bath bomb?
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS HOLY DO NOT USE THIS AS A BATH BOMB
filthy, filthy read
my favorite comprehensible math fact is that 1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8 + 1/16 + 1/32... all the way on, forever, equals exactly 2. and i love it because it sounds totally mystical and then you see the proof for it and its just like a little drawing that makes you go, oh, right, duh. like all you need is a square that you have decided has an area of 2, and then you just start coloring in.
i see what you're referring to, but that "never get that final block in place" thing is what infinity is for. the infinity is kind of for the moment when you do the final thing in a never ending pattern. its the last number. there is no last number. its there. you can see it. you cannot get there. but what if you did? then you'd be at two. you are at two. you measure the corners of your house. its a little bigger on the inside than the out. hm.
uh oh.
1.999etc (because I can't figure out how to put the line above it) IS 2. I remember this argument from discussing Xeno's paradox in HS. If you keep zooming in to where an electron seems the size of the earth and try to measure a millimeter on that, by the time you zoom back out to normal scale, no one would be able to tell the difference, let alone measure it. In fact , the movement of electrons would jostle you over the edge and back.

Mel Brooks on taking studio notes:
I actually… love this
i once wrote an entire academic paper with the central thesis of ‘everyone is kind of a dick to Data and it honestly kinda reflect how people treat neurodiverse people, which is also why we neurodiverse people relate to him so hard’
the original post was missing a line, so here’s the full poem!!
His poetry is good. Fight me.
I HAVE BEEN SAYING THIS FOR YEARS
“AN ODE TO SPOT” IS FREAKING GENIUS FIGHT ME
I’ve reblogged this post before but I just remembered that Julian and Data are friends and Julian loves some good literature. I bet he LOVES Data’s poetry.
Can we also point out that his grasp of poetry has widened from Sunset to Bloom? More complex rhyme schemes and development.
