She sat in front of the Christmas tree, light illuminating the dark room. Her parents were asleep, stressed from the weeks of work trying to make tonight mildly memorable. There wasnât much money for presents so the tree was quite bare. Christmas dinner wouldnât be anything special. She would have nothing to tell her friends about the holidays. But that didnât matter to her. She didnât need the magic of Santa to make that night special.
For once her family would all be together eating Christmas dinner. Maybe they would play a game or just relax and watch tv together. Indulge in a Christmas movie or maybe one completely irrelevant. Maybe they would forgo the event and do everything that resembled itâs opposite. Not matter what they would celebrate and they would do it together. Thatâs all she wanted.
One day where she wasnât left to entertain herself. One day where the conversation wasnât about work. One day with her family. Thatâs what she wanted. And thatâs what she got. A merry Christmas.
