If someone you know and love is a people-pleaser, then you need to go out of your way to listen to what they have to say, encourage them to speak up, and work really hard to modify your behavior. And if you don't understand then you have to ask. You can't just put the onus on a traumatized person trying to break out of their shell to have a lifetime's worth of confidence and self-advocacy skills.
