vessel has 3 pairs of eyes on his mask, but they’re obviously blacked out. the only part of his face that is visible is his mouth. the numerals, on the other hand, have x’s over their mouths. the only part of their faces you can see are their eyes. vessel’s vision was lost/taken by sleep, so he sees through his numerals. in return for that, vessel does all of the speaking, either in general or directly to sleep. vessel is the voice, the numerals are the sight.
