The Archivist's Pen

This whole thing started as a joke, but then my brain started actually doing the work, and before I knew it there was too much fleshed out for me to not finish the job. Whether this leaves you hungry, you feel underdressed, or simply confused, I'll consider it a job well done.

I love my Papa Ken, and I've loved him since the days where me calling him "Papa" was cute rather than weird. He has Alzheimer's, and when you live with someone in that situation, you learn the best way to manage things is to live like you're running a con in a heist movie. If that sounds insane, you clearly have never worked with the elderly.

The Dells are a story that you have to read to believe, and I hope you'll read what I've put together after swimming through some local history.

No one likes road work. Hopefully they like reading about it though.

Mother's Day gives me a chance to brag about my mother, and it's also a chance to try and come clean about how much she's had to put up with. Love you Mom!

May Day wasn't a holiday I ever expected to write about, but then I learned a few things... then a few more things... and then I decided to make that knowledge everyone's problem.

My surgery was several weeks ago. I'm putting myself back together. It's a long, slow process with a lot of steps, but it's worth it. Good thing I'm not the only one working on this particular Seth-shaped jigsaw puzzle, and that at least one of the people involved is an expert. Confused? That's normal, and it probably won't clear up after reading this, but hopefully you'll at least get a laugh or two out of it.

Well, the good news is that the surgery was a complete success. Everything that had to come out came out, and everything that was supposed to be put in got put in. That's great, I wouldn't have it any other way, and I pray to the Lord God Almighty I never have to go through something like that again. Some things have really been getting on my nerves, and I thought it would be healthy to share those annoyances with my lovely audience.

It's Easter Weekend, and if all's going according to plan I won't be able to enjoy any of it. Today, I'm going to talk to you all about why I think calling suffering a gift from God is kind of stupid.

Usually when I revisit a topic there's been a bigger gap between the older post and the newer post. Since most of the recycled topics end up being holidays, that gap tends to be roughly a year. This time there was about six weeks of new material before I trotted out the same old stuff you've already read about, which would feel a little cheap if this blog was actually something any of you paid for. Today should be my surgery, but we'll only know for sure when it's actually done. Wish me luck!

Ah, spring. A time of new life and green growth, when the world outside your window goes from being cold and unpleasant to mild and inviting. At least for the solid half a month before the mosquitoes hatch, but that's something we'll ignore until it becomes relevant like we do every year. It's time to talk about a symbol of growth, and some of its complexities.
