Mulan, the Dragonmaster

My ‘fan-twist’ on the Legend of Mulan. Mushu did warn us about his true form!

Pudge the fish got a peanut butter sandwich every Thursday. Nani does not argue the logic of feeding him, only suggests an alternative sandwich when they are out of peanut butter. Lilo was allowed to take as many photos of whatever mundane or odd subjects as she wanted and Nani would get them developed. Nani recognized what were important habits for Lilo.

When Lilo asks for a pet lobster, Nani does not tell her that lobsters are not pets. She tells her, “We don’t have a lobster door, we have a dog door.” She makes sure the woman at the pound does not tell Lilo that “Stitch is not a real name”.

NANI SPENDS THE ENTIRE MOVIE MAKING SURE THAT LILO NEVER FEELS LIKE HER IDEAS ARE WRONG.

And half of her terror of losing Lilo isnt even just losing her family; its knowing that wherever Lilo goes, they won’t know how to do these things. They won’t understand her. 

It’s not just a habit. It’s a very real part of Lilo’s healing process and Nani understands that.

Also if you pay attention to Nani’s room you’ll notice she had surfing posters and trophies. She was very much on her way to being a pro surfer but had to give it up to become the adult Lilo needed her to be.

And not ONCE does Nani show her sister any resentment. It’s worth it to keep her family together. This is a young woman who is willing to sacrifice all of her dreams and make incredibly grown up decisions.

treasure planet was a very, very expensive movie that used novel cgi mixed with 2d drawing, took a lot of work and money to create, the script itself was amazing to work with, the characters had arcs and depths, and the story as a whole was compelling and never off.

Here’s the final piece from the video drawing the Princesses in a Battle Royale!! I tried to include all the princesses but there are SO many! My favorite Princess is Kida from Atlantis which I plan to make a separate piece for. I had a lot of fun with this, hope you guys dig it! Which team are you on? 👑

I illustrated for Disney’s MULAN book “Mulan’s Lunar New Year”, (you can see the book here!) a children’s book about little Mulan spending Lunar New Year with her family.

It’s my first book and I want to share some illustrations  :D [*will also have this book at my table at CTNx 2018 this year on display!]

Looking back, there are lots that I want to improve on the crafting of my drawings for this book, but overall… I’m really glad I get to illustrate and to remember the joy and excitement I had celebrating Lunar New Years and lighting fireworks with my parents as a kid.

I saw the best thing on twitter today and no one else is freaking? Ok Can I just pretend this is canon?? Because YES to this headcanon.

We are fans of all things Disney art here at Oh My Disney, especially when that art has to do with one of our favorite Disney animated movies of the ‘90s: Mulan. This year is Mulan’s 20th anniversary, and to celebrate, we have collaborated with Gallery Nucleus in collaboration with Disney Fine Art, and Cyclops Print Works to present an exhibition of art inspired by the film!

The exhibition, called “A Tribute Exhibition for Mulan’s 20th Anniversary” will be at Gallery Nucleus from October 20 to November 4, and will feature over 40 works of art inspired by this epic tale. A reception will take place on the first night, and Mulan director Tony Bancroft will be on hand for a first-come, first-served signing from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., so be sure to arrive early enough if you’d like to participate. Select prints will also be available for purchase!
